Rust

I've not been out on my bike this week just gone, and I've just got to it to go out for a ride, and there's rust on the front brake disc and a bit on the chain too! I normally spray all parts like that with 'Scottoiler FS 365 Protector' (and obviously chain lube on the chain). I do this about once a week, but forgot the week before due to being very busy at work. What can I do about this now? Do I have to get a new chain? Is it safe to use with a slightly rusty chain? The bike's had a cover over it, but the cover doesn't go completely to the floor. I need a garage!!!

After 1 week it will just be mild surface rust, nothing at all to worry about.

The mild steel disc on my GPZ is rusty within 30 minutes of getting home, it'll disappear next time you go out on the bike.

Lube the chain and it should be fine, though with time and neglect it would probably develop stiff/ seized links. The working surfaces (the rollers and inside side-plates) of the chain should be fine as the sprockets will tend to clean any crap off.

The chain on my 125 was stiff with rust after a month or so last winter; a good soaking with WD40 and 3 in 1, a comprehensive scrub with a wire brush and an hour or two working all the links free worked a treat. Letting it get like that wore it out an awful lot faster though.
