mbk nitro 50 voltage reg problems.. HELP HELP Please!!!

50cc liguid cooled nitro, same as aerox.
Lights flicker at high and low revs, and bulbs blow holes in the glass!! I have changed the voltage regulator, which has a ballast resistor built in. My ped does not have a seperate ballast resistor.
I changed it for a second hand unit, and guess what same problem.
have I been v unlucky to buy a knackered second hand unit, or is the fault elsewhere?
Could the magneto be at fault, as the unit has 6 or 8 units on it, and if one was to fail, would this cause the same problem? the battery seems to recharge Ok.
Getting well fed up with the thing as this has been going on for 3 weeks, with a 20 mile trip each time to find spares.

Please give me some ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno anything about the scoot itself but the first thing you should be doing is checking the alternator output because if it's blowing bulbs because of too much current it's going to cause some expensive further damage sooner rather than later.
When it's running put a multimeter across the battery terminals and see what it reads when you rev it a bit. If it goes over 15 volts then it needs further checks to find out the exact cause be it alternator/regulator/rectifier.
I take it that it's a 12volt system?? which is why I said 15 volt max. Just a thought you aren't using 6 volt bulbs in a 12 volt system are you??
