My insurance just says
"You are insured to ride any other bike not belonging to you."
It doesnt say anything, anywhere, about that bike needing to be insured by someone else; Though I often here people say that. AFAICS, if its not in the policy, it isnt true. Check yours wave. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

Instead of everyone arguing over wtf it says in their policies, why can't Wave just look at his? ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

Get proper insurance before you drive it.
Plan for everyone's bad driving.
Carry a 2lb hammer for the more sensitive issues.

For my tuppence worth, I'd avoid using in any formal communication the words: came out of nowhere. It could be construed as poor observation on you part. Don't leave yourself open to this.
Good Luck fella.

Fight it mate. Same thing happened to me in November 2004. A dude pulled right out infront of me and i went flying over the bonnet of his car. He has been totally blaming liability on me right up untill 6 weeks ago when he finally accepted full liability. What a turn around. I now have £6,000 coming to me anyday now.
P.S. How much does the new R6 cost? |

Same with the policy that I had covering other bikes. I searched through it and there was no mention of the other bike having to be insured by the owner etc. | I've checked this on my policy before (2 phone calls to the insurance company). My company does not require the vehicle to be insured, only that it cannot be in my name.
Not many people will put a vehicle in their name for someone else (liablity etc)
Wave, sorry to here about the mishap. The law dictates that you have the same rights insured or uninsured. If it was the cabbie's fault, he (his insurance) must pay out accordingly. Were you issued with a producer at the time? If not, then it probably won't go any further.
You may then ring his insurance company and proceed with making a claim (they will probably contact you anyway, wanting payment from you). Simply tell them your version of things, mention you have witnesses, let nature take its course. If things happened as you said they did, expect a prompt payment (no insurance company wants to hang around while you find more things to claim for).
