Touching up chips/marks on the bike

Hi folks,

I have various chips, scrapes and marks on my swingarm, engine and frame which I would like to touch up.

Most of my bikes frame is finished in a light gold color, and the chips and scrapes go a dark color (like a used copper coin). Ive touched them up in the past using Humbrol modeling paint, which blended them away perfectly, but lasted about 2 weeks before it just "fell off" somehow.

What kind of paint do I need to do this, which will last a bit longer?

Some kind of automotive paint from halfords? If so, what should I ask for.

Go for halford's touch up pens, they should do the trick They dispense the paint like ink, and it allows you to do it nice and accurately. Getting a good match might be a bugger, though. If all else fails, go to games workshop and get some metal figurine paint. It comes in all colours of the rainbow, and should stick fairly well.

Maybe the paint was chemicaly incompatable and jumped off. Pens are good and you can blend them too. Artists brush and a wee pot and play away. Leave it for a bout a week to harden then rub smooth with cutting compound or t cut. Then Polish.

Difficult to get it perfect but it will protect the metal it's there to protect in the first place.

Thanks for the tip, Ill try halfords for those pens.

One of my footpeg/heel protectors is superficially corroded, but the other has been painted black by an amateur in the past (and most of it has fallen off).

Consequently Id really like to spray the pegs, heel protectors, gear lever and rear brake lever all in a silver metalic finish. I could have them chromed but I guess that would be pricey. Brasso didnt make enough difference (theyre too bad).

Is there some kind of metalic spray paint that will look half decent (not tatty/liquidy) and will survive on a footpeg?

Try hammerite spray-on stuff, it should come in silver unless they've discontinued it. Should last a lifetime if done correctly If you have a trip to b&q and have a work with the guy on the paint mixing desk, he should be able to help you. Don't ask halfords staff, they're mainly mindless, spotty teenage shit-for-brains like me
