NSR 250!

Hello people, i'm going to look at a nsr 250 tonite with a friend. Friend is potential buyer.

Apart from the usual stuff what else do we need to look out for on these bike's??

Just the usual stuff usually mate. Wink

Brakes, chain, forks, have a ride on it, listen to the engine, check all the gaskets, check for signs of crash damage, are the fairings original, original paint job, etc etc. Thumbs Up

Unless he has a receipt for a rebuild withint he past 5000 miles, assume the engine has been ragged and needs a top end rebuild and budget for one accordingly (£200).

When dealing with a race replica 2 stroke it really is a case of better safe and £200 poorer than lying by the side of a ceased bike thats now bent to fuck and extremely sorry!

A keen owner would keep the 2-stroke oil level nice and high. Listen out for piston slap, it's a sure sign it needs an immediate rebuild or is soon to blow.

Not really much you need to look for. Make sure the powervalves are turning, PGM's are expensive to replace.

What model is it (16, 18, 21 or 28?).

simple thing to look out for is dont buy one, get a gsxr600k seris instead!, all the best! Razz

a tuned nsr 250 will not get near a 600 with equal skilled riders
a standard one would be destroyed by a 600 on everythin but the smallest twistiest road
i own an aprilia rs250 and a gsxr600k5 so i can tell the difference between bullshit and fact
moto gp 250s are not tuned 250's, the aprilia rsv250 costs 120,000 dollars, the honda rsw and aprilia rsw are not even for sale
the lesser honda rsv's are in the region of 50,000 dollars
a honda rs250 wud give a 600 a run for its money sure, still wud be slower, but it cant be used on the road, so there goes that idea

MC18 is a good NSR, its the closest you can get to the GP bike of the year (88). They are also the least restricted of all the models.

The NSR's are great little bikes, I'd have no problems with getting another one, quick, light, and will happily hold its own against bigger machinery on a track. Wink

NSR's when running full power usually show just over 60bhp on the dyno, and lays that power down very well on the road, you can throw them about with ease. Find a decent one (there are quite rare now) and you'll have alot of fun, I certainly did on mine, and it turned alot of heads too! Thumbs Up

i will add
buy the nsr if its nice, i have had the rs for 4 years, the gsxr will be sold on soon for a newer or bigger bike
drivin a proper 2 stroke 250 is different to anythin else, they are great fun
