A bike is to be ridden. Cleaning helps stop bits falling off and rust growing, but that's all just keeping it safe for riding on.

Ridden; tatty or not, mechanically top notch or not.
And try and keep my bikes safe and maintained where possible, but I am also happy to leave maintenance if it isn't required immediately.

Bikes are made to be ridden. I'd ride anything if it had 2 wheels no matter how bad of shape it was in. Except a goldwing or something silly like that.

I buy a bike I like/have wanted/lusted after for too long, ride it, clean it, maintain it, mod it to my tastes (sometimes obsessively), then clean it some more...

I clean mine just enough to keep the rust away but i won't mess around with wax and polish, not got the patience.

Everything mechanical is spot on though so despite being a cheapy from a salvage yard i haven't had a single problem in 4000 miles.

I was at a point of cleaning my bike 3 times a week But winter has come and its like fuck that. once every two weeks and i ride my bike every where

Mechanically sound, doesn't have to be cosmetically perfect. I do like the idea of a bike that I look at and think "that looks great" but it doesn't have to be cosmetically perfect (or even close to it) for that to be the case.

Sure, it's nice when it looks nice, but I'd spend the money on mechanicals before cosmetics.

Scuffs and scrapes are interesting, there's inevitably a story behind them. If a bike's too pristine I'd just worry about dropping it (been there). If they're a little worn and weary, you don't feel so bad if the worst happens.

Cosmeticly isn't not all that important, though it gets washed its only when it (really) needs it, i'll put more attention into keeping things lubricated and in good order..

Mechanicaly, fluids get changed twice as often as is needed probably, a tachometerdrive seal has gone and is leaking oil out the front, but isn't not a problem.. something like the brakes playing up would drive me totaly nuts and would need fixing straight way.

As for customiseing.. anything that is usefull or more comfortable, changeing the tail light to clear from red wouldn't be hapening ever.. but whacking led's might well happen...
