Hey there Sarah,
From near bromsgrove myself, Stourbridge actually. Fair few of us.

If your looking at the 600RR's and from what i read your 5ft 2 i'd take a strong look into the new GSX-R K6 600. 810mm seat hight. I'm only 5ft 7~8 and i can touch the floor flat footed. Lovely bikes as well and i actually own a CBR so i am comparing them.

If you're fairly short I'd consider a CBR400, may not look as pretty or have the penis-extension status symbol, but is a good start for learning to properly thrash big bikes.

Go 4 the 600 straight off the bat.
400 won't be enough for you after 6 mths and you'll wish you'd took the 600.

A good 600 could do you for years.
For the sake of 200 cc.
But what do I know? Embarassed

If you feel confident/cumfy on the 600 then fine.

VFR400 (NC30) is lower, but the riding position is a bit of an acquired taste!

Dont worry G im not going to get a brand new bike. Probably will get a 2001 bike that is a bit cheaper.
I'll try a CBR400 if you think they're worth it? but if i can stretch to fit a 600 i think i'll get one of those. Smile I don't think ill have any problem handling it.

It's all about having a ZXR250, all small and cute. Even I LOOK big on it, i'm only 5"9 and i feel like i'm sitting IN the thing as opposed to On it. Having said that, it's only a 250 and substantially smaller than the CBR400. Riding position is actually quite roomy for a sub 6 footer.

That'd be the r6 then, think the cbr started in 2003?
No reason not to go for a 99 r6 though, unless you want the fancy tail light (which you can get a conversion for I believe).

I have made several assumptions in my advice:
You're the sort that is going to want to push a bike a bit (seeing that you've done minimoto and off roading, again, I'm presuming you've done proper minimoto track riding here).
Thus, presuming you partly want the bikes mentioned for the riding experience, not just to ponce around on showing off you've got a shiny bike (apologies if I'm wrong here).
Also, presume that you don't drive a car (I wouldn't be riding about on a 50 if I had a car, unless it was through a busy town center.

If you've never ridden big bikes on the road, this is a lot of power and speed to bite you in the arse if it does go wrong. Fine if you're not going to be pushing it.
However if you are going to be pushing it, something a bit smaller is maybe a better bet, also a 400 will mean that you have to push it a bit more to go the same speed, which will get you into good habits when you move up. Also mentioned because they are a bit shorter, so slow speed stuff should be easier.

Incidentally, I have owned road sports 600s, but don't really want one these days because they are too fast for my liking - I know I would lose my licence if I had one.

Assuming you're the 'G applied, push the bike a bit' type it probably won't matter that you're gonna pick a super fast death machine Twisted Evil (joke). What I guess matters most is that you're comfortable on whatever you pick, most modern sports 600s are 'about the same' (*) performance wise for any given year, so your down to picking one you like the look of, are comfy on etc etc

I might be short, but I'm not a wimp. picking up a dropped bike would not be an issue.

Your assumptions were correct. I will push the bike as much as i can. Ive done more offroad than minimoto, but even so i dont take it easy.
Your right - i don't have a car. i have a licence but dont have a car. I get a lift to work so the 50 is just for practice for my test.

I think i probably learnt all the habbits i will learn from riding my offroad bike. only habbits i have to pick up now are traffic habbits. im sure i'll be fine though.

I guess i'll have a better idea about things when i've done a few testrides. just need to get my licence sorted first!
