 Posted: 19:42 - 09 Dec 2005 Post subject: Taking heavy pillions? |
 |
|
I recently have been taking heavy pillions, e.g 13 stone plus and i just want to know if there are any tips when taking corners at a decent speed, as the front feels light especially when i take my mate who is like 15 stone plus.
I hate taking pillions who arnt light girls as most of my boy mates who come on the back try and control the bike and just dont have a clue on how to take it round a bend.
The regular pillions are experienced so know where to put there weight roughly but is there any thig i can do better eg should i be in a higher or lower gear?
Any help would be great.

Wobble like you've lost it and they'll shite themsel.
Then tell them politley to sit still.
If they ignore it then don't take them on the back or they'll kill you.
I know it's mates and that but your a long time deid in this world. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

l had joe on the back of the Thunderace a few weeks ago and he must be about 13-14 stone, only problems l had was him fidgeting and moving around on the seat while l was going slow/stationary which made the bike very differcult to control/keep unright, handding was fine for A-B riding but l did,nt try to throw the bike into conners . ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Explain when is and isn't cool to move on the bike, and not to get off untill YOU tell them to.. arround corners they should just follow how much you are leaning, and under no circumstances try and "help"
If they dont follow all of these all the time then they wont be going on ever again!
Make sure they have a good hold on something, and if they feel themselfs falling forward to grip with their legs.. wprst thing is being squashed as you slowdown against the bars and struggleing to controll the bike..
All these are pretty obvious to the rider but not the passenger, even if they ride a bike themselfs.. (worst pillions are riders generally) tell them before you set off too!
Having your rear preload set higher is a good idea if your going far/reguarly, tyre pressures too, and mirrors and headlight aim, obviously when it needs it..
Controll wise.. You can use allot more rear brake then normal, this helps avoid haveing your passenger slideing forward onto you, keep everything smooth, you might need a lower gear as you'll need more power geting anywhere untill your on the flat and straight.

i have had a few pillions from light to heavy and found the best thing for them to do is to sit still, dont lean at all just sit and go with the bike. If they try to lean it can really through you at corners, bends. I was riding down a hill relaxed and me G/F decided to sit up and change her seating position, nearly put us in the trees tell them to warn you if they are going to move. ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

I had some dim bint put her hands over my eyes once. Stopped the bike, ordered her off & left the stupid bitch there.
Next time she saw me (several months later) I was fucking her former gf so that went over quite well |

i had a pillion who lent with the bike or crapped there pants and leaned the other way at times so i knee downed once on mx cx 500, (chenshing tyres) and didnt come off but scared the crap out of em and they did as i asked after that.,
personally the only things you need to alter are your headlights and breaking sitances and sus preload,
if they cant ride pill after you tell em the simple instructions, tyell em to fuck off and catch a bus, no its not harsh, its your arse on the line,,
only takes on plem to think, ooh my arse is sore whilst your breaking to have you sliding merryly under a lorry,
oh yeah,,
riders can make the worst pillions ____________________ There is no point in ranting about someone stupid because there is nothing u can do about it. There is no cure for stupid.
Someone stupid does not realise they r stupid.stupidity is indistinguishable from malice U just have to accept that some people are thick as p1gsh1t and work around them. |

Last time I took a 14-stone pillion he tried to jump on the bike while I was backing it away from a wall . Didn't have a chance, queue cracked screen.
It's especially important to drill common sense into the lardier pillions cos of their increased momentum potential. |
