Hi
Down to luck, and to be honest I doubt you would have avoided it. If anything you would probably have made things worse.
Last year I came across an accident on the A449 towards Wolvo. Car had been going round a long bend to the left, saw something come from the right and tried to avoid it. Still hit the pigeon, but also spun the car taking out a telegraph pole. Resulting in one very written off car and one telegraph pole knocked flat.
All the best

On a motorbike the potential for loosing control when taking evasive action to avoid something as unimportant as a pigeon is too great.
Just hope the pigeon moves, dont try and swerve; If you do, theres every chance youll just swerve into the animal anyway, not mentioning oncoming traffic and the dangers of quick steering on unpredictable road surface. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

I havent got any pics yet of it but its on the left of the bike so on your right if you are looking from the front.
This pic is b4 the damage, but the undamaged bit is on the side you cant see near the fence.

My modified bike now has a section of the front fairing missing to the left and above the headlight about the size of a postcard ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

A lad I know with a VFR400 hit a bird at 80mph. It knocked his whole fairing off but he managed to catch it with his foot. They can do some damage for all the size of them. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

Unlucky, mate.
(Cue for a series of threads in which Colin tests riding into various chickens, pheasants, crows, sparrows, swans and ducks before concluding that puffins are the most dangerous to collide with.
Mainly because to hit one, you'd have to be riding down a cliff face...) ____________________ "That's it. You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college."

A guy i know was hit in the face by a phesant at 80mph, knocked him out cold, he went into a fence followed by the bike.
Damn things are so stupid!
If ever you see any wild animal don't change speed, most have good hearing and are used to chasing high speed pray...or running away from it. slowing down confuses them, as does the change in your engine noise. |

finally got round to taking a pic of the damage
I think its taken me this long to wanna look at it again.

I have avoided, a pheasant and a rabbit before on my rs125, so I shd have been less cautious about trying to avoid it. On the other hand better losing a fairing than binning the bike by losing control when trying too hard to avoid something. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

I have to admit I'm dissapointed you didn't get any photos of the pigeon.
It would have made a good 'Owned' photo |

you should have poped a wheelie, that way the pigeon would have tasted rubber instead of plastic ____________________ Rieju RS2 50cc MATRIX Race Replica - Cagiva Mito 125 - VFR400 NC30
