*more as in an increase in the current numbers of cameras

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4530464.stm

I thought I heard wrong onPirate FM this morning but this story has been confirmed by the beeb , and alternative traffic calming measures will be introduced says the beeb.

me thinks cynically and this is cus there was a poll somewhere or other than the support for cameras had fallen below 50%.

I agree with Siggi, but notice the irony that poor road maintenance is the one thing that guarantees to slow me down.

ITV news just had it on with a headline "1200 road deaths caused by speeding and..."

Where did that figure come from!
I'd have thought speed would be the primary factor in less than 20% of accidents - though you could argue that if everyone stoppped moving altogether, collisions might reduce somewhat.

Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said that from 2007/08 money from speeding fines will no longer go simply on more speed cameras.

It will instead fund other road safety measures and better warning signs

Or in other words, it will go into the big tax pot to be spent on other things, like the road tax. isn't actually spent on highway maintenance Evil or Very Mad

If it means no more cameras great, I guess. Shocked

It doesn't mean "no more cameras" He said cameras can still be put up if called for but the money can also be used for other safety improvements.

Well under that. Under 5% are caused by speed in excess of the speed limit. However there is a long standing figure that 1/3 of accidents are speed related. The liars supporting speed cameras routinely misquote this as 1/3 are caused by speeding, ignoring that speed related includes loads of other factors (such as misjudging another vehicles speed).

All the best

And from what they are saying they will.....buy covering all the existing roads with delightful tabletop humps....and bizarre traffic islands....and sleeping policemen....

Do you think we could charge the government for all the wear and tear on everyones suspension?

Best way to deal with these is to change down into first gear to go over them without slowing down. Maximise the noise and disruption to get the idiots back who asked for them.

Don't brake over them, you want your suspension as loose as possible. Personally I'd rather have the obstacle course than the speed cameras; no fines from those things, and if you don't see them in time, you're not looking enough or you're going too fast. Razz Middle Finger

A well placed tyre full of petrol usually works. I saw an accident caused by a speed camera once, car rear ended another whilst it was breaking hard for the camera, which was actually taking a picture of me from the front on the wrong side of the road, lol.

like rookie says More obstacles means more fun, if you don't see them and slow down its your own fault (and your own gravel rash)

those wank humps piss me right off...what about when its frosty and here i am trying to swerve allover the road trying not to hit the slope of one, not to mention cars and the like that allways have to move into the middle of the road! they are proper crap! also the emergancy services would have just as much trouble, someone with serious neck injuries and theres the ambulance trying to go fast ove r a fucking graet big hump!

and those bloody trafic islands they put in everyware, they cause me a 5 min delay round here when the trafic is taild back when theres lots of stuff cumming the other way and you cant get round, and again they are asking for an accident when two people try to get thru one at the same time due to lack of attention, or just being a bully. look at it this way in light of both islands and humps,
do you want to support a trafic measure that forces one car into the path of oncomeing trafic...nope!

i dont see the problem in carmeras, like the guy sed on top gear, they paint them nice bright colours and put p big signs to warn you, and have lines on the floor for them, whos stupid fault is it for not seeing them!

also more effort needs togo into getting wankers off the roads! i was following a van driver the other day who had the typical "fuck you im bigger" van driver attiture to give way signs. there seem to be half the popel out there who look like they fluked it past their test!
all these people who drive like retards at 25MPH and 50MPH in 30's and 60's who think they are saveing lives justcause people to get agro further back, and regardless of how slow they go are usualy shit at driveing anyway and pay little attention in the flase belief that as long as you go slow nothing can happen Neutral

get a supermoto or a crosser, it's wonderful the amount of distasteful looks you get from old people when you hammer over them fast enough to get air.
