ok so i've just been asked to under take a project which will involve every vehicle system possible so it has to include brakes suspension engine absolutely EVERYTHING.

now naturally i've sat down and had a chat with my old man about it and we're both fairly keen on the idea of building a track bike but unfortunately there's dick all of a used market out here so it's my plan to put forward a proposal to yamaha or honda requesting sponsorship to build a high end track bike from a CBR600RR or the new R6. now what i'd like to know is just how i go about it, what kind of stuff i should say i'm doing and not doing.

any advice hints and tips would be HUGELY appreciated

cheers

chris

Doesn't the World Supersport 600 races already do this? Am I missing something from your query? Confused

no it's something I missed out.

i forgot to mention that i live in dubai in the United Arab Emirates and the Dubai Autodrome will be starting to host a 600cc race league and there's a lot of guys out here who'll fork out a load of money on a race bike so i plan to build one and sell it on and basically repay yamaha or honda for the money they lend me...theoretically

Hmmm, how about taking a look here https://www.worldsbk.com/ or doing a search on the World Supersport series for inspiration. A lot is readily available from performance parts outlets, but I'm guessing there's a bit of a difference between a Privateer built bike and that from a Factory team.

I know nothing about the racing industry, but I would have thought that Yamaha or Honda, any of the big factory names would have nothing to gain from sponsoring a privateer, or private build project. Do they not race thier own bikes in the series?
Other companies, parts suppliers etc would be possible sponsors but surely that would be on condition of appearance at races?

they don't have their own bikes in the series that'll be starting out here. in fact there's only one team rider in the whole event and yamaha and honda out here are individually owned by very rich sheikhs so i have to talk them rather than the branch manager or anything.

as for companies etc i think that sounds like a good idea but what do you mean by condition of apperance at races? i display their logo on the bike?

cheers dave

Any potential sponsor will want to know what value they will get for thier money in terms of exposure of thier brand.
You would need to propose to them how many races the bike will appear in, the audience figures, what the potential performance will be etc.
Obviously they will want to have thier name on a winning bike and want to pay relative to performace if the bike does not do so well.

For example, a parts supplier i.e exhaust manufaturer will not want thier name on a bike that breaks down regularly so it's a tricky business.

There is a racing section on this forum, there must be people there who deal with sponsorship for private racers and know the ins and outs?

Why don't you just buy an old bike and restore it? Confused Can't remember if there's another lad living in Middle East, but I seem to recall a lot of daft questions about biking coming from somebody living there. If you don't already know a lot about bike mechanics, and also know about racing, then attempting to build a professional race bike is just stupid.

cheers for pointing that out nath.

i was originally planning on rebuilding an older bike but even so building a track bike out of an older bike might cost more cuz you'd be looking at engine rebuilds as well as the handling bits and bobs.
