Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that if the bike is left for more than a few hours, when I start it up and knock it into first, it wants to move forwards a bit - even with the clutch fully in.

It doesnt shoot forwards, I can slap my feet on the floor and hold the bike back, and when it finishes utching forwards [usually about five or so seconds] I can knock it from neutral to first as much as I want and it wont budge.

I dont know if this could be a slight clutch issue or not. I guess it might just be a cold bike issue I dunno Razz

It's only when I initially put it from first after warming the bike in neutral. The clutch is adjested roughly according to the manual [manual states 5mm play, it's got a bit less because I prefer the biting point a bit higher up]

Any ideas? The bike is a marauder 125.

Cheers

Ben

Your clutch cable needs adjusting mate, it's not going.

You can use the adjuster nuts by the clutch lever for minor adjustment, or the bolts where it connects to the engine for major adjustment.

Make it so that biting point is about halfway on the lever, and that it doest 'creep' with the lever held fully in.

Lever goes out a bit more than half way when I pull off. It doesnt creep forward any other time than when I knock it into first gear for the first ride of the day. If it was the clutch not being adjusted properly, surely it'd creep forward EVERY time I knock it into first.

Correct?

EDIT: I'll give everything a nice lubing, change the engine oil [which should have been done a few miles ago Wink] and see if that fixes it.

Make sure you have enough engine oil. A few hours normally isn't long enough for clutch plates to stick together as a result of having forced the oil from between them, but it isn't impossible. You expect some drive to be transmitted with the clutch fully in anyway.

Make sure you have the right kind of oil in the gearbox for that bike, sometimes you;ll get what you describe if you have the wrong oil or not the right amount.

I've had a few comp. trials bikes and the Beta Techno was terrible if you left it lying for more than a few days, it would leap half way across the garden when you put it in gear for the first time.

Got a fair bit colder over the last few weeks hasn't it? Wink

If you've got the right oil in and the right amount, and the cable is adjusted properly and it doesn't do it when it's warmed up, 99% certain it's just the plates sticking due to cold oil.

Can we just clarify that he hasn't changed it since he got it (3000 miles)

2885 to be precise. I've sorted the oil issue anyway Wink

Still hasnt cleared up. It's not really a problem, I just thought it was a little odd. If it shot forwards and there was no way in hell of stopping it then yes - it'd be a problem Wink

"I'll just knock it into first coming out my drive waaa-aaaAAAYYYY! *splat*"

Cheers for the considerations.
