You need to replace front and back allways or your chain will wear super fast, meaning you'd be wasteing your money
With the new one check the allighnment carefully, check everything is done up propperly (torque wrench)
If a chain is wearing like that then its past its best anyhow, or horribly out of allignment, it shouldn't need doign that often till its buggered.
I'd suggest takeing it to a dealer and asking them to check the wheel for you, or go to a tyre place and get them to see if the wheel is balanced...
Good luck  ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Once the links are worn to an extent it will stretch in a cheese like way, then its time to change the lot!
shammon - Have you crashed the bike at all? or could it have been binned in the past? ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Give your chain a good clean with something like parrafin then re-lube it. Pay particular attention to any 'tight links', work them back and forth with oil until they are moving freely.
Make sure the wheel is sitting square between the legs of the swinging arm. Best way to get a rough idea is to squat down behind the bike and look along the top of the chain, it shouldn't deviate to either side. Once this is square, run a straight edge (long bit of wood for example) along the length of the bike, it should touch the rear tyre at two points and be an equal distance from the front tyre at two points (with the steering held square). I usually use a piece of string like a builders level to check this. Adjust everything until it is perfectly square.
Once it is square, then adjust the chain tension. To do this find the 'tight spot' of the chain by feeling the chain tension as you rotate the wheel. Always set the chain tension at the tight spot. Slacken the wheel spindle and set the tension by moving each adjuster the same amount. Once you have it set, re-tighten the spindle and check the tension again (tightening the spindle sometimes has the effect of slghtly losening/tightening the chain).
If you are out of adjustment at any point, if there are any major tight links that wont loosen off or if the tight spot is so pronounced that the chain goes way too slack when you rotate the wheel away from it. Time for a new chain and sprockets. Likewise if you see any damaged/missing chain rollers or the teeth on the sprocket are badly hooked over. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Stripped it down today and the chain and sprockets are needing replaced, so much play on the rear sprocket you can lift the chain up on it slightly ____________________ YAMAHA YZF 1000cc THUNDERACE- 'ƃuıןןǝds ʇnoqɐ ʇıɥs ɐ ǝʌıƃ ʇuop ı |
