Cagiva Mito 125

Hey everyone,

I have just recently written off my NSR which was causing me problems. And now as ive still only got my CBT lisence at the moment im thinking off using the settlement fee to buy another 125 as im only 17 and feel im not ready for a 400 - 600 yet, still got plenty of learning to do.

So as the NSR has been causing me problems it has put me off buying another And have been looking into other 125's. I seen the Cagiva Mito which is a pretty resonable price and would just like to know if anybody knows much about these?

Are they reliable?

Can much be done to them?

From what I have heard find a well cared for one which has been regularly serviced and good two stroke ran through it and it should be generally fine.

Depends what model you want ?

MK1 ? the orignal early model with RWU forks and by standard a 7speed gear box

MK2 same as above except the forks are USD

or the Evo model ? Thats the ducati look a like ?


they all have pros n cons the evo model has a mass of spares avaliable as its the most common and more saught after... the MK1 & 2 are my favourite and a well looked after MK1 or 2 will keep you happy for miles upon miles...

As said above really make sure its been looked after and serviced, and warmed up before they ride it, and that its had decent quality 2T oil put in it.. ie silkolene fuchs Pro Race2T (its orangey stuff) or Castrol TTS....

Main things to look at from my memory as a indicator as to how well its been looked after are... Paint on the wheels this comes off piss easy n if the bike has not been washed or loved this will be hanging off all over, the Rear shocks (mainly Mk1 & 2) rust very easily and once this has started to happen the shock leaks like a seive. And the early models the tanks were prone to rusting through (i found out the hard way) and a good quality 2nd hand tank is hard to come by...

Hey m8 I have a supercity which has the same engine as the mito. Parts can be hard to get hold of without the right contact numbers. If you get do get the Mito I have the manual and some numbers ya may need

That one looks a bit dodgy to me as its been repainted its most likely been crashed... that exhaust conversion looks out of place, there is no chain guard i can see in the pics and the chain looks like its more of a tetanus risk than a bag of rusty nails But at the price it wouldnt take too much to make it look better (ditch that stupid exhaust) chainguard can be got for about £10 on ebay and new C&S for about £80 ish from my memory.. Also its a MK2 i think so replacement parts could be hard to find....

However for £1000 you could find a lot better and more orignal than that...

NSR less realiable than a Mito???

If I were you, I'd grit and bear with the realiability issues of the NSR, learn to pass you test on it, then go out and get a more realiable, tried and tested 400. Might save you a few bob in the process.

Hi

Suspect with that 1995 Mito they have replaced the complete exhaust (including expansion chamber) with a straight pipe. As such expect it to have the performance of a 1970s MZ125.

Cagiva engineering quality is very good. Far above their competition. Where they fall down is some of the finish (such as on the wiring) and their ability to cold seize if not treated well.

THE 1995 ONE has a conversion set up which from my memory has a normal 2T end can inside that big one etc..... Kinda like a sleeving system

Could you afford to do your test and save money on insurance for a smaller bike, though? It would save you money, and pay itself off in the future

Plus if you don't get your test out the way you're paying £100 every 2 years for the CBT...

They're 2 of the main reasons I'm doing my test, it's saving money. I intend to stick with the NSR for maybe a year or until something comes up locally that I want, I'm not in any rush to get onto something bigger. I'm just starting to chuck the NSR around bends a bit, and have only just realised how well it actually handles

Better off with a Sachs XTC 4t if you want reliability. Might not be as fast, but looks the part

I went pillion from Oxford to Stoke on a Mito 125, quality journey. Treat it properly, warm it up etc. and like any other bike it should be ok.
I had a go on it and it was brilliant, stuck to the road and was very planted. If i were to have a 125 it would be the mito.
