i don't suppose theres really anything stopping you but personally i wouldnt even think about it unless i was confident of my riding skills and not just wanting it de-res'd for the extra speed.

just my opinion though.

30mph is just too slow.

Derestricy it. Its only a scooter, everyone does. 45mph is much safer for everyone...

aye,, not wise bragging about it,
youll have people like me on your back telling you to wait till your 17 and take your test.

I have an argument about it, for and against,
yes 30mph is annoying, riding in the gutter is unsafe for you and riding in the right line at 30 in a 30 /60 is bloody leathal for everyone.
riding an unresrtricted bike with no experience is also dangerous so think carefully

Keep your L plates on, they will try hanging you for that. ride safe and sencibly and the cops will be fine,, they wont be arsed with all the hastle of proving its derestricted and also deny all knowladge if it happens, (you have age on your side to play dumb)

what really gets me is the 17 year olds who cant be arsed to take there test so ride unrestricted 125's with no L plates, now that is just stupid, especially those that tune them up so they go even faster, then rub the faces of those who had to take out a second mortgage out to take there test.

people with a licence at 17 riding unrestricted bikes, so they do more then 33bhp I dont have much problem with, they have a licence to ride a bike, 17 yr olds can drive powerfull cars, and tey can kill more people with them at a lower risk to there own health,,

getting back to the topic,, its up to you in the end, dont blame anyone if it all goes wrong especially the person who derestricts it.

Leave it restricted for a few weeks, get used to the roads.
Then derestrict it.
I did on my ped, then i changed to an NRG cos my jog kept seizing on me.
Derestricted the NRG the other day just as the engine was run in, and don't regret it, though watch your lights in the dark, i just did 30 miles on my NRG, in the dark, and luckily through backlanes, as i was regularly on the wrong sode of the road through not being able to see bends ahead due to shitty lights.

I recommend it, as you get far less drivers sittin on the L plate on the back that way, though it still does happen.

Also, brakes are meant for 30mph, so remember this when slowing / stopping.

Another thing, it can be a genuine mistake, did it myself, as did a mate, (he got 3 points and a £60 fine, i didnt get stopped as it was only like it 2 days before he told me) that you have L plates on the front AND rear, not just the rear.

Hope this helps.
David

A new standard restricted rs50 will do about 15-20mph and to be honest is bloody lethal. De-restrict it as soon as possible.

I would say do it, just dont -

Tell all your mates at school/collage you have done it
Do 55mph past traffic police (or any other type of police)
De restrict it before you are used to the lesser speeds

Generally just be careful, ive never heard of anyone being caught for their restrictions (even at 33bhp!). And for god sakes dont try to get every last bit of speed out of it, or you will do it damage. Also as an arguement for taking restrictors out:-

Belive it or not they CAN acctually cause damage to your bike. In widely geared 50's (like the RS, or the RX) the bike will struggle if not in the powerband. And because the restrictors can cut this off, the bike can be doing more work in a lower gear rather than less work in a higher gear. This is why the Yamaha DT50 has been discontinued, Yamaha were finding that having the restricors in completely screwed the balance of power between the engine/gearing and it was putting strain on it!
