... goes to motorcycledirect.co.uk.

I got a rather good quote for a cagiva mito - £445.39

Then i got a quote for an aprilia rs125 for £1146.95

Both were using exactly the same details and level of cover. The aprilia was still over £600 tpo!

Does anyone have an idea as to why the quotes are so different? My first thought was that the cagiva would be in the garage too much for me to ride it and was compensated for by the low premium.

What year's were they?

Over twice as much for a ten year old vs a new bike for the same model TPO for me.

More claims on the RS, it's as simple as that.

insurance companies never make sense. This year I paid £211 (MCE) fully comp for my gixer thou. Tried an online (yes I know) quote with another company, Adrian Flux, tonight and they want £645. Work that out.

Got my insurance for £401.

Both '95 bikes. Just seems wierd that the same company can give me a quote for the RS thats nearly 3x that of the mito Thinking

If you're an insurance company and you have 1500 claims a year on RS125s and 500 on Mitos, which will you charge more for? Simple economics.

RS125s are more common than Mitos, so what if they insured 15,000 RS125s and 5,000 Mito's, which would give the same ratio of claims to bikes insured. They'll have more claims on the RS125s if they insure more of them, of course, but this doesn't mean they should hike up the price for Mitos.

Yeah, they don't seem to take numbers produced, or insured into account (not always anyway). I remember someone getting a quote on an Escort RS1600i that was less than an XR3i (even though it was basically a souped up, rare version of the XR3i). Their reasoning? "We don't get many claims on the RS". Shock - there were only a couple of thousand made!
