Headlights

Hello all.
Got a derestricted 50cc Piaggio NRG MC3.
Basically did a long run in the dark today, and have come to the conclusion that i could see nearly aswell in the dark, as what i could with my lights on.
Its a 2004 (late december) Liquid cooled model, and so the lights are hardwired, making them always on, so i not only don't have an on and off switch, but i dont have a hi and lo beam switch either!

Anybody got any ideas on making my lights actually worth having? as i do a lot of miles in the dark.

Unfortuneately lights on 50cc bikes are shat, really really bad, 125's aint much better!

You could fit a pair of halogen pushbike lights the run off an indepandant battery..

Fitted driveing lamps and about to fit fog lights too! most of my rideing is nighttime so i know the feeling.. but these wont be an option as it will murder your electrical system, hence the seperate lights :/ (rechargeable though)

I used to have an MC3, utter shite headlights. From what i understand, they emmit as much light as a car's sidelight. I got halogen bulbs off ebay - they made a marginal improvement. My speedfight has much better headlights than the piaggio did, but you'll still be able to see more due to the headlights from the car behind than from your own lights.

Im pretty sure theres no replacements for NRG's, However i fitted these to my Runner 50 (i removed the 2 outer lights as it was too dim with all 4)

yeah, they're shite - was thinking brighter bulbs, and also, the covers, not the outside cover, as thats already clear, but was thinkin about changing the inside(ish) cover to a completely clear one, rather than one with the lines in it that just makes it dimmer.
Also, would it be easy enough to fit a hi and low beam switch? theres a space for another switch on my bike, and it wouldn't do any harm with it being a genuine piaggio switch, seeing as a mate has an old NRG lying about.

yeah was thinking about spotlight style things somewhere near the bottom of the forks, concealed though, with a switch for them, and better bulbs in the originals - might make a lot of difference then.

The spotlights are actually mounted on the plastic just under the lights Wink

Anyone got any idea on the type of connector on the headlight bulbs of my 2004 NRG?
I need halogen bulbs, better ones, but don't know of the connection, as my job had pretty much normal bayonet fitting (thats was an 04) and pictures of bulbs for NRG's are 2 pin bulbs.

I couldn't find them anywhere other than ebay. Have a search, they were only a couple of quid each.

Had a search and found a pair for £12 posted, so called 50% more light, just waiting for my account to be re-instated (some arse got me suspended) any time then i will probably buy some from there.

Hi

Also check how they are wired. May possibly be worth wiring them directly from the battery and using the current feed as a trigger to a relay to turn them on and off.

Can help if the switch system causes problems.
