Mini Motos

I hope I am not abusing this site by asking this - sure I will get booted out if I am. I am a journalist at the Observer and am doing an article about people doing well by importing mini motos from China and selling them here over ebay. I am trying to get hold of anyone who has bought a bike this way or anyone who has an opinion on the way that these are sold, their quality, how much money could be made, etc. If anyone can help would be much appreciated. From what i have heard, chinese mini motos are slow, break easy, and aparently built quality is very poor...

But they are cheap i suppose...

my mate bought one off ebay bout 3 months ago, we own a private tarmaced lane so he brings it down every now and then...its good fun but i imagin spare parts would be hard to get hold of, and even if you could they would probly be very expensive.

In fact theyre quite easy to get parts for, a lot of the stuff is very similar if not exactly the same.

Heard a rumour that theyre getting outlawed like the trikes (off road ones)

Hi,
If can be useful an opinion from Italy,i say that the quality are poor.
I'm not absolutely a supporter of this "adult toys" that so fashioned in Italy now, but anyone that have seen just one time too an European mini-bike (i refer myself to the bike used in race organized in Italy) can easily find the deep difference in quality.

In the last International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan (November 2005), custom police even have confined many of this "things" directly from the stands, 'cause not legal for the european laws.

Got a chinese jobbie in my garage that has never started. The pulley thing snapped too.

Been on one, was a bit dead on it. I'd imagine build quality is not the best either.

Got one in my shed, made in china cheap job. If I let it stand for more than a few weeks I have to put petrol in the cylinder to get it started.

Also it seems the carb (if you can call it that) has no float thus if you leave the fuel turned on when you stop the engine it will overflow........ bit dangerous if you ask me.

althought people say that the chinese mini moto's are cheap and nasty you get exactly what you pay for, most of the members here talk about the early Mk1/Mk2 Air cooled bikes which cost around £60 brand new. although cheap some chinese companys have made very reliable robust version.

i myself started on a Mk1 then a Mk2, then upgraded to a B1 rep and finally to a Banshee (all chinese made)

the quality of the new water cooled bikes coming from china are vastly improving as the customers here are willing to pay more money for a more reliable and well built bike. some average between £200 to £300
