This is really confusing!

On my CBT certificate the instructor ticked mo-ped at the bottom, but I was reading my manuel to find how to change my spark plug and it said scooter !!

Thanks LH-ER5, I think you have come up with the answer !

Come on people, it's really not complicated. Rolling Eyes

A scooter is an automatic motorcycle. Comprehend? A twist and go. No gears. There is no engine size that defines 'scooter' - you get big ones and little ones.

If your scooter is a 50cc or smaller, and if your scooter is restricted to a maximum speed of 30mph then it is ALSO classified as a moped. Doesn't stop it being a scooter.

Does chopping the roof off a car make it a convertible? Yes.
Does it stop it being a car? No.

Technically it wouldnt be a convertable because it would have no roof! It would still be a car, just a cold, wet and windy one. Unless in summer when it would have great air con!

Thanks for the scooter/mo-ped thing! I think we have it sussed now! Very Happy

OK I'm going to attempt to understand what you have typed, although this is difficult because you seem to have a limited grasp on basic grammar, punctuation and spelling.

"Braking are a good make" - I've never heard of them and if they were a decent company they would have a proper brand name.

"woodeefuckingdoo. its fast, it handles" - Yes, this is what most people look for in a bike.

"you proberly cant ride to full potentioal" - You've never seen me ride my bike, so how can you comment on this? At least to use the full potential of my bike I dont have to look like a dick in a racing crouch on a scooter, redlining it in the single gear it has Laughing

"just another twat who does 130 down a a road" - No, just because my bike can do 130, doesn't mean I do it on the road. In fact I probably ride more responsibly than most scooter riders.

"go on ebaya nd see howmany zxr400's the same you can buy, or how shit they really are?" - I don't have a problem with many people owning ZXR400s, as this means it is easier to get parts and advice. Also, there are far, far more scooters than ZXR400s on the road.

"the scooter is his speial, his ideas and its proberly fun for him. why is it a waste of money, and a chav mobile?" - Probably fun for him? Probably expensive for him too, when he can have more fun on a better and cheaper bike. You can't see the anodised bolts etc when you're riding it (which, by the way, is the point of having a bike) so it's pointless putting them on. It's a 'chav' mobile because the bike, and the modifications to it, are popular in the 'chav' subculture. He may not be a 'chav', but his scooter is similar to what a 'chav' might ride.

I love arguing Wink

But your missing a point, even though it may look a little 'chav', a 'chav' could probably not afford to build/run it.

I dont see it covered in tacky neons either?

I can see tacky blue anodised bits and bobs, and a very very tacky fake Nitrous Oxide system.

I'm assuming it's fake as it wasn't mentioned in the list of mods.

Actually the definition is not that hard. Everything with a (semi) flat footboard (no frame there) is a scooter.

right.....

so because you have never heard of braking, they are shit? they make a lot of products, and a lot of very well engineered products.

fast and handles. maybe some people like to have something a bit different? not just to go 130mph or to get their knee down on a roundabout, but maybe so they can show off a little bit of individuality, and personality? or you can have a plastic fantastic crotch rocket.

and as for riding to its full potential, i assume, not only because of the way you come across, and due to the fact that it isnt wise, legal or really possible on a public highway.

and for saying their are far more scooters than zxr400's on the road....well duh. theirs like a thousand different makes of scooters, to your zxr400.

fine for you, but i like to have something different, so i will carry on building my fighter while riding my lil dtr, and carry on getting flame by people like you.

i like argueing too, jay.

Send me Braking's website then...

You'd rather have something a bit different rather than something nicer? Even if a bit different means ugly and slow? OK... Wink

As for individuality, most people wouldn't know a Fireblade from a GSXR from a ZXR, but they can differentiate between a scooter and a bike. If image is what you care about (and it seems to be, with this priority for individuality) then a bike is always going to have a better image than a scooter. Scooters are regarded as learning or commuter things by the general public. I don't care too much, but the ZXR looking nice is a plus.

The way I come across? The way I type on a forum dictates my ridind style? In that case I would ride properly, using correct grammar and spelling Laughing It is possible on a public road to legally use the bike, not to it's full potential, but you can use it more than you can use a scooter (i.e. being able to hold it at 70 on a motorway comfortably for a start Laughing )

Anyway, I am only talking about that ugly scooter. You got a DTR and building a fighter? Well that is cool, I like those bikes (what's the fighter based on?) , I even don't mind scooters, I just find it pointless when people spend so much to achieve so little on a scooter lol

knock yaself out Wink

by the way you come across i meant saying about your zxr400 being nicer faster etc. some people dont care about speed, and looking nice is a opinion. so some people like mopeds, so its their thing, its all not pointless for what you like Wink

and seeing as you asked so nicely, im gonna waffle now..

wel my bikes not doing anythign at the moment unfortunetly as my dads has taken pritority.

hes building a spondon triumph 900, with dymags, 03 r1 seat, mazzroochi 52mm front end pfm supersport brakes etc. lookign buetiful now, thanks to the tubalar frame and s/sided arm. i have a 900 triple in bits. was a trohy, but ahs every thing speed triple, bar a hayabusa front end, and is painted in mg rover purple. need a engine or a new crank for it though. also have a gsxf600 which im waiting for a gs550 to come up for its frame and bodywork, n its goin in that. just sorted out a duke 900 running gear for one of the rd250's too. unfortunetly theirs too much on the go as i got a written off mx125 to put back together, a mx50 it bits which im toying of putting a mx lump in and putting the finishing touches to my sv650sk3.

need money first. lol

Maybe he enjoys riding around on a machine that he believes is cool, and that he considers special and unique. What do other people's opinions matter if he is happy?

Whilst many people amongst the population at large might view your zxr400 as a fast cool superbike, some may see another 17 year old, on another overpriced toy bike bought by mummy and daddy, and another accident statistic waiting to happen. However if you gain enjoyment from owning and riding your zxr400, then what difference do these opinions make to you? Karma

I've always thought a MOPED has gears
and a SCOOTER is twist and go?

moped is limited to 50cc, where as scooters go all the way to 900cc

but I'm not sure....

And I didn't by the bike myself it was a birthday present. I only use it for going to college and to a mates house ! It was to tide me over for a year or so until I pass my test for a car !!

It's two wheel just the same as a cbr600rr or 50cc geared bike such as an RS, its the rider that makes the difference,

50cc scooters are a means to an end, I still stand by my comment that my brother should have had a cheap 50cc scoot to tid ehim over 6 months after the theft of the RX50, instead dad bought a spanking new RS50 to the tune of £2300 which John threw across traffic lights 5 days later... if it had been a scooter, at £600, wouldnt have cared as much.

So where do vespas and lamberettas come into it? They have gears! Go up to a proper Mod and say his Vespa is gay! Or tell him he looks quiere in a suit, youll know all about it then. Its each to their own. I have a zxr400 but I can appreciate that people have different tastes. And I didnt buy my bike for the "general public". I bought it for ME. And because it was cheap! lovely scooter idon and wicked projects their jayluvmito.

I thought everyone on here had grown out of the pub type arguments. "My bike is bigger and faster than yours therefore better than yours"
Just appreciate for what the thing is everyone has something that someone else looks at as a waste of money. Who also says that you have to choose a bike based on engine/handling performance alone.
