who turns their fuel tap off?

is it necessary? i've never had one before this bike and not sure if i should be doing it.

I turn mine off everytime I turn my bike off. I don't actually know why but it feels weird if I don't do it now.

I used to have to with my RS125 otherwise the engine would flood.
Ive never turned it off on the zxr

I don't turn it off as my bike uses a fuel pump.

i always turn mine off

i dident used to bother untill my engine flooded 1 to many times chucked a load of fuel into my exhaust and ended up splitting it down the seam when i started it

i then managed to blow a couple of big assed holes in it with a welder set to high

as my bike is an import its hard to find a replacement exhaust so i had to rebuild using sheet steel (a twat of a job)

rode round on it for a few days with the hole in it sounded louder than a harley the neighbours loved it

I don't turn mine off if it's being used regularly, but now that it's parked up over winter I've turned the fuel tap off.

Yep, all the time. It depends from bike to bike though. I found leaving the Blade's fuel tap on and attempting to start the bike flooded it (that'll be the fuel pump working overload then). Thought bad starting was down to a flat battery until I tried keeping the fuel tap off when the bike wasn't in use - cured the problem and starts on the button, even after a couple of weeks.

The RVF was quite happy to have its fuel tap on all the time; until I made a modification to remove the vacum feed. Like the Blade, I then had to turn it off when not in use to prevent non-starting.

i havent been turning mine off but i've not used the bike that much yet to find out if it causes any problems.

i'll monitor it and see how it goes

I used to long ago, I don't now. I have mine set to reserve the whole time, and keep an eye on the trip meter to know when to fill up.

If your carb is all in working order, it shouldent need turning off. Personally i turn mine off all the time because i know how much of a bitch a flooded engine is. But ive considered starting to leave it on, the amount of times its cut out infront of people is rediculous. Whats even worse is when im sitting there screaming at it asking why it isnt working, then realise ive left the fuel tap off, but in the dark i cant find the feckin "on" position.

It would have anyone who tried to nick your bike miffed enough! They would make it half way down the street, bike would use up whats left in the carb, cut out, lock back wheel. Criminal then bins it and wahey, you've got your bike back (although maybe a bit damaged!) and hopefully the theif done himself a bit of damage in the process....Hooray!

Running out of fuel = no more engine movement
Assuming the clutch is still engaged and its not in a high gear (which he wouldent have time to get into) It would lock the wheel.

oh...i only thought of a locked wheel as a result of brakes binding/chaing snapping and snagging it etc cos if you clutch in after running out of fuel then you'll coast.

Yes when it's away for the night. It doesn't necessarily mean the carb float isn't working because if the bike is on a side stand it's tipped over to one side and doesn't always stop the flow of fuel fully.
By the time the morning arrives it will be pissing out of the overflow.
