Recently purchased a motocross style hongdou with a pattern cg125 engine in it, was looking hopefully for tuning tips if there are any whatsoever....
any replies would be greatly apreciated cheers

bit pointless buying it an launching it from a cliff, parts dont need duck taping together in fact the build quality is surprisingly good, thought it would be shit a very nice bike indeed

I've got a Chinese 125 cruiser thing. The worst problem is things loosening themselves. Make sure every nut and bolt is tight, every time you lube the chain, check over the major nuts and bolts for tightness. Also check for electrical connectors disintegrating and bulbs blowing. They do it with frightening frequency. Some of the bulbs will be difficult to find to replace.

Engine wise, keep changing the oil every 1000-1500 miles inc. cleaning the oil gauze filter, clean and lube the air filter similarly. The carb might come set up a bit rich, so keep an eye on the spark plug. Keep cleaning it, it needs it. The frame should stay rust free for a winter or so, but flaking paint will become an issue annoyingly soon. Chrome trim needs mostly to be removed and put in a box in a dry place. It's about the only way those parts will stop rusting.

Tuning? Don't even bother thinking about it, other than perhaps changing sprocket tooth numbers. You'll do much better just keeping it properly maintained until you do your test, and then get shot of it, unless you're wanting to use it as a commuter.

full tank lasts 2 weeks

not a bad little bike mine only cost 500, cant grumble at what you get, build quality good for price just wondering whether he had a top speed? as im not 17 yet and if its slow its gotta go faster lol, its also a massively tall bike im 6ft 2 and im not flat on floor lol

Top speed will be 55-60. It's a bit pathetic all in all, my Mum's 13 yr old CG with 33k on the clock can still touch 65 with a helpful gradient.

to pass my test i paid £600 brand new gy125 discs front/rear,elec start etc ...it rides very well tested by mcn 7/12/05

I picked the bike up myself from a warehouse in portsmouth,as i live in bristol it was only 1 1/2 hour trip that saved me £50 delivery. the bike comes in a steel cage type crate,you have to fit front- wheel,handlebars,mirrors,and battery.only extra expenses for me were £53 to register it which includes 12 months tax,number plate £9.99, i also fitted a smaller rear sprocket for better road gearing which cost £20 although that was my decision.
personally i am chuffed with it especially as i have never had a brand new bike before Very Happy

they look a good little bike, think the parts on me garage are off one off them except the forks are not upside downers

the test will be to see what sort of mileage these will do over time. i think the chinese market will get better, they are bringing some good looking sports bikes out, and they are steeling jap technicians. Just a matter of time before they get the feel for the money and hike the prices up, at the minute you are paying for what you get

This problem of bolts rattling loose applies to CGs as well (the genuine article). But the damn thing will just keep on going until the engine falls out.

Watch out for the cancer, these bikes are very susceptible to it because of the cheap parts. WD40 is your hero.

Changing the rear sprocket,makes a big difference to the road useabiltiy,point taken with the WD40 thanks.
ps the seat height is quite tall approx 900mm i think so tippy- toes for me,not ideal i know.
