So what do you think of the new R6?

The write ups seem fairly good but then you wouldn't expect anything else from one of the big four, but.....

...having just seen one in the flesh I reckon that's one damn fine looking bike, and the riding position was less cramped than I'd expected!

The one to have IMO has to be the black and carbon version, absolutely stunning, sat next to an all red or red/white it looks like a 'special' but for the same money Mr. Green

Almost enough to swerve me from my Daytona quest Silence

Too much top end power? The Bike review mentioned it offered a small increase above 10k (like the previous bike) and max power at 14, so other than the aural effect, not too sure on the new rev ceiling. Preferred Bike's own future R6 - which was detuned using FZR600 cams for better low down/midrange, at the expense of 4bhp at peak.

The looks are growing on me; apart from the Mickey Mouse mirrors and scaffolding holding on the numberplate.

Prefet it in red/white too.

I saw one a few weeks back at Newlands Corner. My thoughts of it were not good. Just didn't like the looks at all. I'm sure it's a very good bike and has some interesting new technology, but looks-wise it definately doesn't do it for me.

I was a red/white one, maybe the black one will look better.

I really like the older R6s for looks as well, so was quite disappointed by this.

Got to agree about the scaffolding at the rear end, nothing a tail tidy wouldn't sort mind Smile

As for the performance, I am unable to extract the last few percent from any bike, so it doesn't matter to me whether it's up or down a few BHP, I just love the look of it though.

Bit of a fugly swingarm too, definitely needs a tail tidy. I like the look, but I'm adament in my opinion that the full-on cans look so much better than the in-frame ones, despite the practicality of it.

That picture makes it look really ugly - the wheels don't look in proportion. It's all down to the lack of bodywork - there's no front end and no real tail either.

Wrong.

I saw in a motorshow a few weeks back. It looks good but I found it tiny for some reason. The license plate holder is fugly as well. I also don't like the naked area in the side fairing. The review I read said it's as powerfull as the 05 636 and that they over estimated its power. The bike looks very sharp and I like that but I'm not very impressed except for all the new technology.

I think it looks superb. Well, all except the swingarm - just not quite right somehow.

Gotta be in the black Smile

Another revy 600. Rolling Eyes Wink

I quite like the looks, but then I've liked the way the R series bikes have looked since the 02 R1. Yamaha seem to be putting plenty of time into the build quality and design these days which gets a Thumbs Up from me after moving from Italian to Jap bikes. I always felt that they were seriously lacking in the design stakes compared to their European counterparts. Thinking back to slab walled fairings and shell suit paint schemes.

After owning a 2001 R6 for a year they'd have to have done something spectacular to drag me away from the Honda, power wise and sorted the flighty front end/slap.

That extra 1000 rpm or whatever may make a decent difference on track in some conditions - as it could mean you can enter a corner in a lower gear without having to change up midway throuugh the corner.

I'm not convinced on the electronics - biggest thing seems to be that it stops you being cack handed with the throttle. However I've only seen this really make a significant difference if you're really bad, for instance opening it up fully in 6th when you're doing 40mph.

Ok, I was thinking of my 9.

Maybe 4th on a normal bike.
Open the throttle too much given the right conditions and you'll flood the engine resulting in worse noticeably worse acceleration.

Because my 9 can accelerate quite hard from low rpm in a high gear it was fairly obvious if you turned the throttle too much as it bogged down a bit compared to if you smoothly opened the throttle.

I think it's a fab bike, but I heard that someone had one on a dyno and it hit the limiter at 15,700revs, not the 18K or whatever the counter shows. Confused

Yea I love it, had a sit one one at the bike show, but I do hate that numberplate meccano thing. Look guys number plater will never look sexy on a bike so moving them 8" from the body doesn't help cos there still attached. But the rest, wow. I'd love one (in black)

Like you Mongrel, I am gonna get a 675 - but I sat on the black R6R at the NEC and thought it was also the dog's bollox. Mate of mine has a new one and loves it. I prefer the 675, just, but need to see them both in action really.
