 |
|
Hi,
I've done about 3000 miles on my chain and not needed to adjust it till recently.
Prior to the time I adjusted it (perhaps just coincidence), i did a really good clean of the chain with paraffin and then relubed the chain.
Anyway I recently noticed the chain was very tight.
I've since loosened it.
My question, when spinning the rear wheel (on centre stand) , sometimes it just sort of stops suddenly and feels stiff for a bit.
Now the chain looks in good condition, once the bikes been out the wheel spins fine when back on centre stand.
My only concern is that I have been out on my bike once a week during the winter (ie to keep the bike running), already I can see tiny rust spots on the chain (really tiny), plus the exhaust looks bad. (yes I do give the bike a good wash down with cold water afterwards), I relube all the time.
My question is the wheel spinning an issue, can't say i've ever done it before.
Now the final part, last week after travelling 60 feet down my road, a BMW 4x4 came flying round the corner , I braked (i think using the rear brake) and the bike sort of skidded (i was only going slowly), anyway I ended up skidding on to the pavement. At this time I thought i'd heard something from the chain.
But I doubt the chain can have any baring in the braking, afterwards I road and repeatedly checked both brakes (ie for next 10 miles), my guess is i'd just set off (literally) and then applied brakes before tyres and everything warmed up. ____________________ I've a twin and a 4. |

All chains have 'tight spots' and when adjusting it you should always test the slack on the tightest part of the chain. Nothing to worry about.
Can you remeber if you pulled in the clutch when you locked the back wheel while braking? if not the chain may have been protesting about the rear being stationery as the front is still providing drive. ____________________ Andy Sez....
