Hi, can anyone who's owned, or ridden, a ZX-9R (Only G springs to mind) tell me what they're like?

Cheers in advance! Smile

I hear they are a very good buy right now because everyone (wrongly) thinks they're slow. Sure, they can't beat the litre bikes but should be able to keep up with them.

I remember one model being repeoted as better than the other (C or E but can't remember which way round it went) so remember that one...

I'm pretty sure PB magazine have got a section/review on them this month, worth checking out...

Okay, I don't own one neither have ridden one, but from what I understand they make cracking road bikes. They're not up to the 'pace' of the latest litre superbikes, but in the real world, on British roads, I doubt that's much of a problem. Just how fast do you want to go anyway, as the ZX9R can't really be considered slow. What you loose in terms of 'utlimate performance', you gain in slightly softer (more comfortable? (unless it's like all Kwaks with a rock hard rear end)) suspension, slower (easier, less flappable) turn in speeds and less ultimate, top end power (good low down power/midrange).

Bit heavy, but that should aid stability, should be good for touring/pillion riding as well, nice big fairing to cosset the rider too.

Only problem is some of them come in obligatory Kawasaki green.

In standard form, they will feel a bit stabler/slower turning/heavier than the newer bikes.
But then you can pick one up for a hell of a lot less than the newer faster bikes.

My bike isn't an ideal basis, as it has been tuned and has full ohlins suspension.
My engine pulls very cleanly from 4k rpm. There is a noticeably more power in the 'power band', but there is no noticable trasnition.

The handling won't be razor sharp compared to newer bikes, but I find my bike quite comfortable to do distance on, it has standard clip ons, but fully rear set and raised rearsets.

Any specific questions?

I had a 2000 (x-reg) model E1 for a year...

Insane speed, well behaved on the road, great headlights, roomy for tall people, 70mph = 4k revs so cruising I used to get 45mpg, reliable and very gorgeous. I found it a great bike, although it costs shitloads to run. My insurance was crippling, the tyres lasted 5k max and I was constantly worried it would get nicked.

Mr. Green Lovely bike though Thumbs Up

I've just got back from Tescos after picking up a copy of 'BIKE' magazine.(seemed to be the best there this month).
On page 79 is an article about the 98 model ZX9R.
It's only a one page so save the (£3.80!!!) and have a read in the newsagents.

I wondered why my lunch came to £7.50!!!??
