what can white smoke mean from the exhaust when its cold?
I can't seem to remember what it is, it means something.

I had it this morning when it was cold (0.7 degrees) went away after running it for 5 minutes after it warmed up.

Does anyone else get that first time it's started up in the morning?

It wasn't that much white smoke just made me wonder

Moisture burning off with the heat of the exhaust i'd imagine is it? Been very damp and wet over night outside. We got this mucky really thin fluffy kind of rain at the moment.

could just be steam evaporating as the exhaust gets hot, my cbr does this if i leave it outside overnight.

condensation forms inside the exhaust (this is what rusts car exhausts) and when u start the bike, the water gets burnt off.

put ur hand in the path of the white gassy stuff, and if your hand comes back damp, its prob just steam.

Very Happy

The exhaust pipe is cold. This condenses exhaust gases so that they leave your exhaust as "smoke".

It's not smoke though, it's vapour.

When your exhaust is hot, the gases stay as gas.

good good, that's alright then was worried for a sec.

Can lots of white smoke meananything out of interest? You often see old cars on the motorway chucking out barrel loads of white vapour. Blue I know means oil is mixing with the water (head gasket or oil getting past the rings most commonly).

The Americans use a different way of measuring the octane rating, think its PON instead of RON. Fairly sure your premium is still about 95 RON and super is still 97 RON+.
Do you have a grade below premium over there still though? Would expect that to be around 91-92 RON, which should still be sufficient for jap bikes.

Its just condensation steaming off - almost all vehicles do it especially if they were parked outside and it was cold.

Does give an idea why it's a bad thing to do a lot of short journeys without getting everything properly warmed up.
