Dont matter if we like it or not, there are laws regarding almost everything about bikes. If the rule makers had their way all bikes would be 30mph electric 3 wheelers.
loud cans are the pet hates of most of these people along with dark visors but only cos these things are easily spotted by police.

I think on several occasions I have made my views clear on biking.
I have no probs with loud cans and have pulled but not busted riders with illegal units. mainly due to them revving the bollocks out of the bike making it hard not to notice.

Drive sensibly and ya should not get pulled.

As for dark visors, I admit it, I use one (not on duty of course)and as for load cans, me too. after all, the police is my job not my life and I am a dedicated biker.
Trouble is not all officers are like me.

There are no hard and fast rules with police officers, would you really want zero tolerance??. Do 40 in a 30 and one officer will nick and another give ya a bollocking and let ya go. Same goes for anything else to do with bikes.
I dont really give a dam about what ya have and have not got on ya bike, as long as it is safe and ya ride sensibly then ya get no probs from me.

In fact, I ride have 2 bikes, one a duke thats been giving me untold probs of late, I actually stopped another duke rider just to ask some advice, which was freely given. There ya go we are not all PIGS. just some of em

Another qustion Bikercop, what happens if you have an illegal mod (eg dark visor or illegal can etc..) and you have an accident, does it invalidate your insurance or something? Confused

On the small plates issue...
(as far as the police are concerrned anyway)
Imagine one of your frineds/family got hit by a vehicle with a small plate and was seriously injured.
No one witnesses got the plate and the vehicle got away... how would you feel knowing the person can carry on and do it again?

Okay, maybe /you/ wouldn't do that, but the police don't really that.
/me is a hyprocrite however : - \ ... my lettering is legal size : p

Give him a break Evil or Very Mad
It's his job, not necessarily his oppinion. He said before that he doesn't always agree with the law but he is meant to inforce it. He sounds like a descent bloke.

I'm willing to give Bikercop the benefit of the doubt and assume that he is actually a police motorcyclist, I mean there's no reason why he should lie about it really. But then when ppl claim great things, or just things that aren't very common (like cops on the side of bikers) ppl need some evidence to believe it. Make a show at Boxhill.

/me reminds everyone of the 'anna' poll in fights and flame wars.

Do we expect /everyone/ that comes on here to prove who/what they are?

If he isn't telling the truth, might as well let him have his fun, it's not like it will actually effect anyone.

Looks like i started a big arguement here.....
You can see why officers are wary of joining forums and going to bike meets.
I gave an opinion on things based on questions I have been asked here on other threads.
I am no legal whiz kid and cant possible tell anyone what will happen if this or that is done. I can only say that I have to stick within the law but when and where possible I turn a blind eye because I am a biker.
How many here are in the same position as me, I like fast bikes, I ride fast and take the risk but if I get busted then I lose my job..do you...
and dont give me crap that we officers stick together, thats rubbish, If I pulled someone for being obviously dangerous then they would get booked, copper or not.
So the next time ya get stopped for speeding on ya bike with illegal this that and the other and all ya get is a good bollocking and told to go on ya way the officer may just be me or someone with the same views.

As for the job, hell, I wish I were a warden or a guard then I could have as much fun with biking as you guys do.

Well said mate, some people just want to slag off coppers. If I have a pound for each time I've been given a slap on the wrist and told to bugger off I'd be rich! (Well, I'd have a tenner anyway Smile).
It's good to know that there are still some decent coppers out there somewhere, what force are you with?

Sorry officer, but I use a small plate but only cos I keep snapping the big ones off when I crash. I ride an enduro bike.

Whats the rules about goggles? are they classed as visors? can I wear dark or hologram goggles on the road?

Anyway I know a bike copper with the similar views as you, his theory seems to be that you can ride like a maniac as long as you will be the only one that gets hurt if you crash. If he pulls someone with an dodgy plate/visor as long as they are insured etc he just lets them go.

Personally if a bike copper pulled me just to ask a question "whats your bike like to ride then sonny" I would let them have a go as long as I could have a blast on their police bike. Wink

One thing bikers are always going on about is car drives not considering other people on the road (i.e us bikers).

Although I cann ot see the reason for some speed limits (Bath bypass 50 mph WHY?) a lot of the 30, 40 and 50 limits are there to safeguard familys living in the area (some however I might consider are there for easy cash collection). Open road national speed limit - I have my own brain and on a clear road I will use my own 'judgment'

Numberplates - G makes a good point they are there for certain reasons. Cans - sure have a non road legal can but if it is excessivly load think about where you are using it at what time of night - dont rev it up in my estate at 2 in the morning regularaly (and if I ever get hold of that guy he will end up with his can up his arse and probably his whole bike and it sounds BIG).

Tinted visor - what a bunch of crap - I cant take my dark glasses off while I am going along but I could flip a tinted vizor up if I needed to see in a patch of shade. And how come if you drive a car you are considered intellegent enough to flip down a potentially vision obscuring sun visor to help you see better but as a biker you are not considered intellegent enough to consider the proper uses of a tinted vizor.

So what I guess its all down to consideration of other people - except for the vizor thing thats just crap - why would any intelegent person volantaraly wear a tinted vizor in a situation where it wasnt helping you see better when we are all driving vhecules where we need to be able to bew as alert as possible!!

Welcome to the forum Steve...got bored of Paul's place? Razz

I think that the general "don't ride/act like a w@nker, and you won't get pulled over" philosophy is sound, and does usually apply. From my experience, most coppers appreciate "aware" motorists more than the "safe" (i.e. slow) ones...I've happily overtaken coppers on the motorway at 80mph, but I hate it when ppl immediately freeze and slam on the brakes as soon as they see a glimpse of a vehicle with fluorescent decals...even if it's passing them on the opposite side of the road!

AS far as the goggles go..they are legal afaik.
I believe the ruling is they have to fit behind the visor (thus dark strips are legal, because they are behind not infront of teh visor).. though I'm not sure if you don't have one Confused However I believe they are still considered to be similar to sun glasses, which are perfectly legal.

oh, and 'Welcome ' btw Smile

can't you get some crm people closer to Reading to come on here tin.. really going to have to blag a ride at some point Smile

Bad timing G I used to live in slough and work in Maidenhead, could not be much closer other than being in reading.
I used to regulary join the ridgeway at Streatly and ride my CRM to the other end. last time I rode it on the CRM it rained and the Ridgeway consists mostly of chalk which gets awfully slippery. I fell off six times that day the final crash resulted in me going over the bars and snapping the mirror off with my knee, I decided it would be safer to go home after that. As Tin would know from my posts on Pauls site I am a consistent crasher.

Thanx for the welcome. Smile
