dodgy electrics poss, dead divvy.

Cleaned the divvy over the weekend and after rinsing it down it was running ok. Got onto it this morning, no rear brake light and no go from the starter motor. All other lights and horn ok, but when I hit the starter button all I get is the red light on the dials coming on, no activity from the starter or relay. Wiggled the cables about a bit and the rear brake light started working again.

Anyone got a quick step by step checklist for Divvy 600 electrics? The underseat comartment looks dry and I don't think that there is any water in there, but there must be a short somwhere or something not letting the electricity through. Its as if the kill-switch is on...

something else to check (bear in mind ive only come across this once)

under neath the tail fairing on the right hand side just below the grab handle it the bikes tilt cut off switch, the block connector is facing up, and so can fill up with water.

I had the red light come on and not starting (on my 600 divvy) when the oil got very low.
Could it be that?

First thing to check would be the side stand switch.

Bit of a long haul to get it repaired, turns out it was a rotten connector and cable on the starter motor relay that caused it.

The blue-white starter switch to relay cable had rotted through (as I found when I pulled the relay off the mounting to check it and the wire came apart in my hands).

The other problem was that the male connector block (which you apparently cannot buy replacements for) had corroded inside and the spring clip for the starter connection was a mass of green coppery gunk.

Still, pressed on and got it fixed without having to re-wire everything completely by cutting a slice out of the connector block and running a bypass wire with a spade connector out through the side of the relay housing and sealing it with sillicon.

Bit of a bodge job but its sealed up nice and tight and wrapped in Duct Tape.

Will blast WD40 through the rest of the conectors later to make sure they are all moisture free.
