I'm needing a new engine for my '92 TDR and have seen a '91 TZR engine on ebay.

Does anyone know for sure if it will fit straight in?

The TDR seems to currently have a DTr engine in it that I'm assured slotted in with no mods at all.

Here's the TZR on ebay if the pics help at all.

Please don't get ideas at outbidding me if it does fit though Tut Tut

Hi

Looks like an early TZR engine with a kick start and no provision for an electric start. Might fit, but not sure you could bodge on the current electric start and not a clue if the porting of the barrel would be a reasonable match for the current exhaust.

All the best

Keith

Thanks Kickstart, thought it was a bit of a long shot.

This one seems a bit more suitable then I think:

Hi

Looks like that should work. I am not certain, but Yamaha are normally very good at only changing things when they really have to, so likely the engine mounts, etc, will all be the same.

All the best

Thanks for the advice so far Keith, seems the engine mentioned above is actually a 1988 tdr engine from a stolen recovered bike, search for ebay item number: 8018280970

little bit hesitant now as it's so old and being sold on again so soon.

maybe i should just stump up for a strip and rebuild of what i've got Question

Hi

Was there such a thing as a 1988 TDR125? Thought they came out a year or 2 after that.

All the best

Well, mines a '92 and it's imported as they didn't sell em here till 93/94. Don't know when Japan/Europe started production but that auction doesn't sit too well with me so I don't think I'll take the risk.

Think I'll look at the rebuild instead as the work to get that one new gaskets (poss piston) and whatever fitting work needed doing as well as shipping would prob come up to the same as the rebuild on mine and then there'd be no guarantee it would last 5 mins anyway.

Hi

Think the early ones were designed and built by Belgarda, Yamahas Italian importer and is a quite different bike to the model that was sold in the UK. From memory the TDR250 came out for 1988 and the 125 followed a couple of years later.

If you rebuild the engine then it should be sorted for a while.

All the best

Keith
