Bit look where the "rocket" exhaust comes from.

I reckon this is fuelled by beans, brussell sprouts, rotten turnips and tizer.

they say 3G's seems fairly reasoanble... 0-60 in 3 secs is one G

The go kart runs on hydrogen peroxide - it'll bleach your hair while it sends you flying!!!

More likely you will go grey with shock!

Dont underestimate the power of jet engines!!!
How do u think they get a 5000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ton jumbo's of the ground and up to 350000000Mph Very Happy

but they do pressurise fuel buy the ton in to the engine the pour it in the exhaust for the afterburner! and they sound AMWZING.

aint u ever seen trackture pulling each 10ft jet engine produces 5000 BHP Razz and they use 4 of the MOTHERS Twisted Evil

errr.. are these not *rocket* engines....

Which left many, many tons of space ship and get them to stupid speeds to escape the Earth's gravity Smile

Aha a post which I can contribute. I'm not quite a rocket scientist but I do have an Aerospace Engineering degree and a background in jet engines with the RAF.

First up Hydrogen Peroxide IS rocket fuel, it's incredibly volatile stuff but relatively easy to make. Rocket engines are basically a controlled explosion, venting the rapidly expanding gases through a venturi to make them supersonic and produce huge amounts of thrust. Thrust is equal to the mass of gas multiplied by it's change in velocity plus the pressure divided by the nozzle area (I think) so with the velocity and pressure numbers being enormous and the area relatively small, the thrust can be huge from a tiny motor. A rocket has no moving parts.

A rocket going into orbit has to reach about 18,500mph just to be travelling fast enough so that it falls back to Earth under gravity at the same rate as the earth curves away from it, therefore achieving stable orbit. To escape from the earth's gravitational pull completely, if I remember rightly, it has to achieve 25,000mph. No wonder the fuckers break up on re-entry.

Jumbo jets don't have afterburners. The RB211 jet engines each produce about 60,000 pounds of thrust or without the fan in ground power mode about 43,000 bhp. The newest engine from Rolls Royce is the Trent, as used on the Boeing 777 produces around 90,000lb of thrust or in ground power mode around 67,000bhp.

You only really need afterburning for supersonic flight, it has to do with the relative mach number in the exhaust. Without afterburning, the mach number must be less than 1 or you choke the nozzle with shock waves, so if the aircraft speed is greater than mach 1 the velocity difference becomes negative and you don't produce usable thrust anymore, you produce drag. So you need to keep the speed in the exhaust greater than the aircraft speed to produce thrust, however, you can't exceed mach 1 in the exhaust or it chokes, so you dump buckets of fuel in to bring the temperature up and the relative mach number down to less than 1 so that the exhaust gases can be subsonic in the exhaust but well supersonic relative to ambient air. Thsi is why you see "shock diamonds" in the exhaust of afterburning engines and why they sound awesome as the much faster but subsonic air in the exhaust meets the colder, denser and slower ambient air, causing shock waves and the rumble of pressure waves that you hear as raw noise.

I think, if I rmemeber correctly. Or something like that.

Sorry, got a bit carried away. Embarassed

Intersting read Mr.C...Bravo!! Very Happy

so, using your intelligence and expertise in this area...do you think the little Go-Kart can actually achieve the speeds and times the manufacturer has quoted? or is it being a tad optimistic? Confused

OK then, lets see

the rocket produces 750 lbs of thrust, to convert this into a force we can use it has to be converted into Newtons.

The conversion factor is 4.45 (trust me on this one)

so 750Lbs = 3338N

Now they claim an acceleration of 3g (1g is equivalent to 9.81m/s/s)

so 3g = 29.43m/s/s

Newtons laws basically say that Force = mass x acceleration

so 3338 = m x 29.53

so to get to 3g acceleration with this kart it would have to weigh 113kg with a pilot

so it's made from fresh air and balsa wood.

more likely, the whole contraption weighs 225kg with pilot

acceleration is 3338/225 = 14.8m/s/s = 1.5g

and that doesn't include any losses from wind resistance which goes up as the square of speed, so if you go twice as fast, drag is 4 times as much, plus rolling resistance from tyres, bearings etc.

I reckon 1.5 g from standing start but dropping to 1g as you get up to speed.

170mph is 76m/s, to get there in 2.6 seconds is an acceleration of 29.23m/s/s or 3g so that checks out

and even if you carried enough fuel for a 2.6 second burn, which is probably quite a lot of very dangerous stuff to have around you, I doubt if you could control something with wheels that small and a conventional go-kart steering set up

Still, if we assume 1.5g acceleration it would only take 5.2 seconds to 170mph which is bloody impressive with your arse 2 inches from the deck... Laughing Cool

i wouldnt wanna do anything more than 60mph on a go kart , there bad enough doing 40mph on a straight...

But amazingly i understand what Mr C was saying.

and if you did go 100mph + on that kart, i bet it would be a bit of a ruff ride.
not to mention the wind factor...good help you if it hasnt got a good steering damper!!

Off topic but 3G's is comfortable, 6G's you have to concentrate, and 8G's is painfull.

Nevetive G however is downright feckin horrible.

Depends on the direction.

In this case, it's backwards so it would all be bloody uncomfortable but not as bad as on roller coasters and in aeroplanes where g acts vertically downwards.

This is why shuttle pilots lie backwards for take off and the F16 fighter pilot almost lies back as well.

If you're sitting upright, mere mortals can only withstand about 4g before blacking out. Fighter pilots literally have bigger more powerful hearts developed like any muscle though training and can probably survive something like 6g without a g suit and straining. To go to 9g they have to train, and have a g suit to strain against, literally to narrow the veins and arteries in the lower half of their body to stop the blood from flowing away from the brain causing a blackout.

Again, in the case of the kart (or bike) negative g is caused by braking and you can withstand a lot more neg g in this direction than you can vertically. If I recall, F1 cars brake up to -4g without any ill effects but if a fighter pilot experiences much more than a -3g pushover he can literally burst blood vessels in his eyes - which is not nice, referred to as redout.

It's an interesting subject with regards to the direction, i've always foubd that it seem to feel like its acting diagonally downards, not straight vertical. Have never experienced red-out, don't particularly wan't to. Have done about -1.5G in a light aerobatic aircraft and found it much more uncomfortable than the 6G whilst in the Hawk. We had G pants on but no upper body assistance.

I have to say I have never been in physical pain under G, but apparently that kicks in around the 7/8G mark. From my limited experience just past 6G was where I lost it, and found that my practical ability to do anything under that G was reduced to about zero.

Never experienced G on a bike though, not sure I would want to. Mr C, just out of curiosity do you fly at all, I think G used to, and Demonic.

Cougs.

started doing a ppl but ran out of money when my son was born... was either flying or bikes .. hey no contest Cool

was RAF jet engine technician for a bit where I developed a passing interest

my only fast jet experience is ground running engines Sad

My knowledge and opinions are from education rather than experience I have to say so if you have experience that suggests different then more power to ya. .. respect Cool
