Hi All,

Im new here Razz
Love the whole community...

OK, dont laugh but im only 14 and i love bikes and the bike i would love most would have to be the NSR 125 Razz

I am allowed buy myself one this year but i have just one question;

How far can you actually go on these small engines before you need to stop and let it cool down?? Im told that you would have to stop after every 40 miles around. Would that be correct??

Thanks all Very Happy
Dave

That info is incorrect matey.

You can go as far as your fuel tank allows you to without the need to stop.

In summer I rode from Central London to Brighton and back (approx 110 miles) non stop (except for 1 petrol stop for 5 minutes) and the temperature indicator needle didn't even rise above 1/3 of the way on the gauge. Thumbs Up

Hey Dave, your info is indeed false!
At your age i strongly reccomend trying some field biking or offroading like i did at your age (almost 2 years ago now). Also, try and get a project bike, mechanical knowlage of bikes will be invaluable in later years. But for now, just like me (CBT not for another 17days) you will have to look on at the bikers on the road, read posts here, and just imagine and look on in awe. If your as into bikes as i was at your age (and still am!) these will be the longest couple of years in your life Thumbs Up

In 2 years, and plenty of pretty long journeys, my NSR never overheated. But im pretty sure you are restricted to a 50cc till you're 17.

Would ANYONE buy a bike or a car that you had to stop after a certain number of miles just to let it cool down ?

Also, would ANY manufacturer build such a stupid machine these days ?

I don't think so Razz

My guess is that you've been badly informed, wherever you've 'read' it Thumbs Up

Trust me. The idea is great, but the reality isnt. Being such a young person you will have alot of time on your hands. This means that you have no job and get bored easily. I ended up spending all the money i could and rebuilding a bike in bad condition in under two months. I was out there in the cold, rain and dark doing it almost every day! It WILL NOT take you 3 years. Get an offroad bike.

Now that i think about it, my old KMX125 did overheat when i was really pushing it up and down mountain roads, lots of hairpins etc. Needed to let it cool down by pootling for a while, or stopping and having a fag.

And my NSR nearly overheated once, when i spent half an hour on an industrial estate doing non-stop u-turns at 5mph in preparation for my DAS!

learn as much as you can about bikes mate as you can never have to much experience and something is bound to go wrong with your first couple of bikes!

reccomend getting a crosser that what i did when i was about your age absolutely loved it!

as for building a bike, project bikes are always good if you ask me but can work out very pricey!

just glad i had a haynes manual lol, the bike would been going backwards otherwise!

good luck with whatever you decide!

There could be a slight problem with older bikes in blocked up traffic you cant filter through on a hot day. Turning the idle speed up would help it a little afaik

Er, how? Surely turning up the idle speed would mean it was:-

1. Running faster and therefore hotter.
2. Still not being cooled properly as theres no airflow.

You won't be able to stop yourself from riding it.

Don't bother, go MiniMoto Racing instead.

Alright there,

If you're that big wouldn't a NSR125 be a little small for you?
