hello im a new member and am in need of advise.

I own a L reg rvf400 and am having a few problems, currently it wont start the bike turns over as normal but every now and again its back firing loud pop followed by blue flame . When we remove the plugs there coverd in black stuff that looks like oil but not as thick and once cleaned just comes back after each crank it all started last night with a slight hesitation when opening up the throttle followed by poor runnning and now this morning it wont fire

The bike is covered by warrentee but id like to have a few ideas to go at the sales place before i try and get it to him thanks in advance for any information

Have you got an aftermarket jets/exhaust installed? What condition is the air filter in?

Hope it's not, and I might be jumping the gun here, but if the plug is excessively oily it might be the piston rings - is it the same on all four plugs? Try a compression test when you have them out. Is the end of the exhaust dry? What colour is the smoke?

its exactly the same on all 4 plugs the oil in the engine looks fine and the exhausts dry the smoke from the exhaust is just white normalish not blue

After speaking to the garage it came from, they have suggested new plugs and that the dirty plugs are due to un burnt fuel not oil caused by faulty plug, Iv just collect the new plugs and im going to remove the ones that are there and leave them out for a while then fit my new ones does this sound right or am i waisting my time?

I have just changed the plugs and with some coaxing its started ran abit smokey but eventually it cleared but now it just boggs when you rev it hard.

Now thinking back to just before the problem started, i had just fuelled up on a wet day just after washing it while the pumps were being refilled im now thinking about contaminated petrol and i want to empty my tank to refuel how and where do you dump petrol properly, as i dont fancy blowing my neighbough hood up
