 |
|
Bought a rear hugger of Ebay for my Fazer 600. Shiny black, good nick but has a few little scratches. Cost £25 so can't complain. Thought I might get it resprayed the same colour as the tank so when I had a moment I called a resprayers.
Couldn't believe it. £100? Just for a rear hugger? I've not had anything resprayed for a while but that sounded steep to me. I thought it would have been about £40 or so. I'll put up with the scratches before I'll pay £100.
I may call a couple more tomorrow but thought I'd ask you lot.
What do you reckon? Is that the going rate?

Seems bloody steep. I had all the fairings on my trackbike resprayed for £150.
If you were willing to pay £40 for it being sprayed though, that would put your total outlay at £65... for which you could have probably bought a brand new hugger. |

I'm in exactly the same position, even paid £25 I'm spraying mine myself, £10 worth of spray for the 2 colours to match my rear cowl.
The average cost for a wheel to be powder coated is around £40
So £100 for a simple bit of spray paint on just a hugger is a joke, walk away, a mate is filling in my chips/dents for free & i'm spraying myself

Thats interesting, spraying it yourself, Never done it myself so don't have a clue how decent the finish would be,
I know. Post pics when you've done yours
I'll call a couple of others tomorrow.

Spraying plastic isn't too hard,
My dad bought his hugger and belly pan for his fazer off of ebay and it was the wrong colour red, so he got the spray paint made to the colour he needed, colour codes are in the brochures, his was the vivid red cocktail (VRC1), and the company near him got it made up.
They do mail order spray, you need your colour code so if you find it, then i could see if i can be made up, and then tell you a price for it, i will post some pictures of what it come out like tomorrow when its light.
Or you could try getting in touch with them by going to https://www.bee-bee.co.uk/
You will have to phone them as their website is down, the numbers are on the page.
As a rough guide this is how to spray plastics, it's up to you if you want to do it this way.
1) Rub down the surface evenly with some very fine wet and dry (sandpaper) without going through the surface of the paint,
2) Wash it off with clean water, allow to dry thoroughly (use a hair dryer if need be),
3) Prime with a dark primer if needed, when dry rub down again,
4) Prepare an area for spraying (dust free, hair free etc so nothing sticks to the paint),
5) Spray the hugger evenly, many light coats are better than thick coats, allow to dry between coats,
6) Once your pleased with it apply clear laquer evenly to the surface to bring out a deep shine,
7) Don't touch for a few days as the paint and laquer will still be sticky, and marks will show up easily.
8) Then fit it to your bike.
Hope that helps

I've just finished respraying the tailpiece on my VT in the blasted Candy Red (coarse metallic silver overlaid with red lacquer) and being anal I got the original manufacturer colours made to order.
RS Bike Paint were recommended to me, and I'd recommend them too. They aren't especially cheap, (£12 for an aerosol) but they do make up the paint to order from the model, year and colour code. I ordered it at 4PM on Friday, it arrived at 11AM on Monday. Fairly detailed application instructions are included too.
If their website isn't working (it isn't for me just now ) you can phone 01226 203608; they're in Barnsley. Apparently if you take along a panel, they'll match the paint to the faded colour. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Great Replies fellas, thanks very much. I'm going to seriously consider this now that I've got some idea how to do it.

Just dont do it outside in this weather, the moisture/dampness will ruin it, heated garage is your best bet.
But like nsr_rulez says it's not that hard & will cost 1/10th of the shop doing it
I'm getting a couple of small dents filled first then i'll be off to a mates garage

Post it to me, an i'll do it for the cost of the paint and postage lol
I painted my scooter myself, and it is a bloody good job for my first go at respraying.
Have a bash yourself, better to learn the technique for when you need some major respraying than paying a garage. And since the hugger is so small, it won't matter that much if you balls it up a bit.

Absolutely, it's easy - you just have to be patient and give it time. Rush it like i did on the mudguard of my old scooter and it goes wrong. Pressurised paint cans can give a damn good finish, even though lots of professional painters put them down.

Feck paying that m8, bikes are expensive enough without paying that for a paint job to a mud guard.  ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

Go to a motor factors and just get a tin made up in that colour and scrounge for a sprayer. Failing that, get the Hammerite out. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |
