Just read front of MCN this morning and noticed this is the new crackdown by the police!
they are even setting up special "chase teams" to catch up with offenders!

Part of the Spy Network accross Britain will see CCTV Cameras near a road being linked to a special police system!

This is getting ridiculous i believe when people take the piss with them tiny tiny plates as big as a thumb nail they should be fined or whatever!
but if you have them slightly smaller than law i think its stupid!
i dont know a biker with a proper legal size plate!!!!, suppose its easy money for them for fines but to gain points is crazy!!!

comments??

I got a R500 fine yesterday for riding without my number plate. Evil or Very Mad

I was not even on the bike at the time. I was parked in a private parking area at a shopping mall and the !#$#$#^ traffic warden gave me a ticket. Spoke to the prosecuter and he knocked the fine down to R100 ( the minimum fine) Thumbs Up

Cheaper to get a R100 fine for no plate than a R20 000 fine in a speed trap. Wink

What is the proper size.

To be honest, i'm not fussed for small plates.

What if you saw someone on a bike hit a child and you couldn't read his registration plate, even though you were close.

The legal sail for me, as I'm not bothered about having a small plate or something else to attract the police (tinted visor, but no problems so far).

MCN over the last year or so seem to get hold of stories which surface from maybe the tiniest of sources. They then hype them up and scare monger as much as they can.

They recon that every CCTV camera remotely near a road ( including petrol stations ) will be linked to some super computer database and log every trip that we make. To a certain exctent this may be truebut as I said they like to hype these things up as much as they can, it makes a good headline.

Not bothered if they did introduce a crackdown.

There's a legal size for numberplates, a legal decibel level for exhausts, regulations on everything.

3 points on the license is fine with me, couldn't give a crap either way.

My bike has a small plate, but its going to be removed before I pick it up fron the Dealers!

It has a loud can, but TBH a small plate is simply flouting the law. Loud cans aren't a blatant attempt to stop the police/authorities from easily identifying you.

I'm glad the police are cracking down on small plates - they are illegal and it means that they won't be cracking down on speeding or loud cans! Smile

IMO opinion you play the game, small plate, loud exhaust, black visor, etc, we all know the law so it's up to you if you decide to break them. I don't think anyone has reason to complain if you know what the potential consequences are and get caught.

Small plates may be taking the piss, but i still like them
Loud cans might be annoying, but i have no doubt they are safter, specially when filtering.

I can't see the point in a small plate at all. I mean, it's one of the first things a policeman is going to look at, as its the first thing he can radio in to identify the vehicle (imagine if your bike had been nicked and he couldn't read it properly...) So, putting on a small plate is basically showing that you're doing something wrong from the off.

Some people just seem to like baiting the police then complain when they get a fine for it.

I think you'll also find that a smaller plate doesn't enhance the performance of the bike either, or your penis. Wink

Oh, Sparky, hello, my name is Adam, I have a full size plate too. Thumbs Up Wink

My number plate is a legal size, however large and cack it looks I'd rather not attract attention.

If you're number plate is illegal then you can't really complain or be suprised if the police want to punish you for that.
It is thier job to enforce the law at the end of the day. Unlike the tinted visors issue, it isn't unreasonable to make bikers have a standard size plate.

I wonder if the clampdown (if it's true) has anything to do with the number plate recognition systems they're planning to use more.

I saw a TV doc where the police had used it to catch cars that had been reported stolen/involved in crime.
They caught one bloke who was in a stolen car. They had another reported as being involved in an armed robbery, they boxed the car in, pulled him over, but it turned out that he was just a listed witness in the robbery. Still it shows that they are effective.

Hi

Another person here with legal plates on the bikes. However I do think that it is taking the mickey to ticket someone for a small plate when they need a ruler to work out if it really is small. If it is close then who cares.

Reason for doing it is to make it easier to crack down on things like speeding.

All the best

My plate is 1x1" under the legal size, and is only like that so that it fits on the rear of my bike.

A full size one will no longer fit becasue a prevoius owner took a hack saw to the undertray tail.

That is what MCN are saying, and that does sound logical.

I would say that shows just how deffective the system is.
