Hopfully if the test goes well tomorrow I'll be getting a zzr600. However, the tax has expired on the bike.

I won't be getting my insurance cover until I've purchased the bike, so I won't have a cover note to pop down to the post office to get one. And apparently the post office won't accept a fax copy.

So, what to do?

The dealer said that they could tax it, but that would mean there would be another owner on the docs for the bike. I'm guessing that they would have to register the bike in their name to tax it?

A bit confused really.

Anyone think of any options?

If you get a cover note for the bike and give it to the dealer they will then get it taxed for you and the log book will get sent off straight away by the post office staff, the new one will then be returned to you direct, the dealer does not go down as another owner, its straight forward Thumbs Up

Don't bother taxing it til your insurance docs come through. The post office will back-tax you til the beginning of the month anyway.

If you got stopped, just blag it. Have the green slip from your V5 with you and explain that you can't tax it until your insurance form comes through. Blah blah, seller said it had tax but it didn't so you're on your way home.

Should be 48 hours max. for the docs to arrive.

Yeah no-one's stopped for tax discs any more anyway, as it's all computerisated. I didn't tax my car until January 10th, when it was due on the 1st. They just ask if you want it starting from January 1st or February 1st.

As long as its MOT'd, insured and basically legal you'll get no hassle for the disc, make sure you have a recipt for the bike and the green slip from the V5.
When you do tax it just back date it to 01-01-06

As long as your insurance company are aware of the bike details and they say your covered then you can ride it without the cover note being in your posession.

Just get your dealer to do it.

When I bought mine, they filled in the V5 slip with their details, then took it to the post office with their insurance. When he got back, he just tip-ex'ed his details out and I filled in mine.

It's only the main bit of the V5 that gets sent away to the DVLA.

Whoa, that avatar reminds me of Pete Byrne (sp?) of now big brother fame. Disturbing.

I don't think the cost is the issue, it's getting the post-office to issue the disk without the bike being registered in anyone's name. It will currently be recorded at the dvla as being a stock bike at a dealer.
