On an Aprilia RS 125 your meant to change the piston/rings at 8,000 kms.

Should imagine it will be the same on the mito.

Maybe these people refering to their engine being rebuilt have just changed the piston/rings.

125's can let go with as little as 1,000km on the clock. It's down to luck of the draw. However, for everyone that doesn't make it past 10,000km, theres many more that make it to 30,000km.

If you do buy one that's had a "rebuild", find out what was changed and by who. Find out if they used original parts or pattern parts. Find out how long ago parts were changed, as a lot of people blow their bikes up, "fix" them and flog them on before they are run in and had a chance to fail again.

For example, a bike can seize and you can get it running with just new rings, but it won't run at normal revs without seizing agin. So ask a lot of questions about bikes that were "fully rebuilt less than 300 miles ago."

Eek! i'm taking delivery of a planet tomorrow that's had a rebuild. Do they use the same rotax engine as the rs125? I'm definitely going to be quizzing this guy tomorrow!

Ahaaa, i didn't know cagiva had their own 125 unit, part of me thought they might use the old suzuki RG125 unit, as the rest of the range uses suzuki engines. I should have figured, you can't go racing with someone else's engine!
