Hi All,

When I bought my K2 GSX-R600 it had an undertray and two round tail lights (similar to the back of a CBR 400) instead of the one large one that K2s normally have. Unfortunately whoever designed the undertray didn't do a great job as it is a ball ache to replace the light bulbs if they fail, which one in particular does about every two months.

To get around the problem of frequent bulb failures I am going to get some of those L.E.D. replacement bulbs that mimic standard dual filament bulbs. However at the same time I would like to replace the bulb housings i.e. the short stubby cylindrical thing that electrical wires connect to, holds the bulbs and slots into the undertray. The only problem with this last part is that I can't seem to find a bike shop that sells this sort of thing.

Anyone out there have an idea as to where I could find something like that ?

Don't bother with LED tail lights, they are not bright enough, stick to stardard bulbs.

Is that from personal experience or just what you have heard ? I ask because I can't remember seeing an L.E.D. based tail light on a bike that wasn't just as bright as a bulb.

Why change the socket, those LED clusters just fit straight in place of the original bulbs don't they?

They do, but the plastic on the old housings are melting from the heat of the bulbs and also don't give a water tight seal to protect the bulbs from water. Added to that the actual sockets that the bulbs sit in don't have proper cut outs for the pins on the bulb to sit in. Instead there are just a few scrapes and a dent in the walls of the socket to try and hold the bulb in.

All in all the housings (which include the sockets for the bulbs) are rubbish. They were probably the cheapest that were available when the previous owner had them fitted.
