I'm not sure how to work it out to MPG but my bike does about 200Km to a tenner, is that bad? its only a 400 and i was talking to my uncle the other day who was shocked it did that little.

Assuming 91p a litre, £10 is 2.42 gallons, so 200km is 51.6mpg.

Which is pretty good.

But just going on the basis of £10 of petrol for 200km is very inaccurate. Keep a log over a couple of tank fulls of all the fuel you put in and how far you go (and do not skip any tanks) and then you have a chance of something slightly more accurate.

All the best

Keith

125 miles to a tenner. My SV650 does roughly the same.

Nothing bad about it. What does HE own? A cg125!! Wink

Hi

Plenty of people think "bike, therefore does a stupid amount to the gallon". The mileage rate where I work for a motorcycle is 5p a mile (so less than the petrol costs let alone tyres, chains, servicing, depreciation, insurance, tax, etc).

All the best

Keith

ok, well i have been watching the fuel and setting the trip meter everytime i re-fuel for the past month,

I get about 170-180km before i have to flick to reserve,

If i refuel just as i flick to reserve it costs about £7.50 and i know it costs a tenner to fill completely

Therefore i reckon its about 200km from filling to dry

Bros 400 by the way, thats good fuel economy then?

Hi

You need to be a lot more accurate than that to get a decent idea.

For example with your figures you say ~175km for £7.50, which equates to a full £10 tank doing you 233km. The difference between doing 200km and 233km on £10 of fuel is about 8mpg.

All the best

Keith

My Honda Rebel is doing very well petrol wise, after a new clutch the
fuel economy has got a lot better, now upto 85MPG which is so much
better than before.

As for my CB250, still running @90MPG and on some good days 93MPG.

To be Honest I wouldn't ride a bike that CANNOT do 80MPG

Not only that but it is diesel fuel which has about 15% more energy by volume than petrol.

All the best

Around town I get about 88 MPG out of the GN. On the open road it's usually closer to 95MPG. Naturally, much better than the car, which comes in at around 30MPG Sick

Getting roughly 100miles to £11 full to reserve Confused I'm doing mixed riding so back lanes 40mph, main roads 60-70MPH and dual carriageway 80-85mph.

Worked it out and at £4 per gallon my 500 is only doing about 35MPG!! my missus 1.6 shitroen Picasso does 42MPG Sad

Better than the Landy though that struggles to do 23MPG and it's a diesel !

I think I need to adjust my riding or fit a throttle stop ! Mr. Green

That's pretty similar to my Bros400. Commuting to work I can manage 200km before going onto reserve, but that's because I rarely take the bike above 4k rpm.

Riding for fun I am more likely to get 160km before hitting reserve.

does it vary greatly depending on driving style? my old, cough, 360bhp cossie would do about 100 miles to a tank (£55) tearing up castle combe but on a leisurely run to wales (Llandow circuit) I could do over 400 on a full tank
cant comment on my bike as i dont own one... yet (recently made the leap across) Very Happy

My GPZ500 CAN do better than 60mpg if ridden sensibly. Drops to closer to 40mpg if you rag it.

My H100 seldom does less than 100mpg even if mercilessly flogged.

My PC50 did around 150mpg.

My RD350 YPVS regularly dropped below 20mpg, as does my Dads kawasaki triple.

12 quid gets me a full tank (15 Litres or therabouts), which is sufficient to get me from loughborough to london (108 miles) and down into central london and back (25ish miles round trip) giving me a grand total of 133 miles at which point or thereabouts, i run dry.

My bike's high revving so 80-90mph down the motorway = 13-14,000Rpm in top gear which isn't good for the economy.

Slow it down to 11-12,000rpm, i can get my 250 from london to loughborough just on reserve tank (8 quid) -9-10 litres.

HTH

so that's roughly 0.1 miles per penny of petrol consumed. OUCH
