New Bike Advice - ZX6R

I'm going from 18 months riding, bout 12k miles, cbr125 to Ducati 750sport (65bhp).....

Next bike I'm considering is a ZX6R but it's a bit more expensive Rolling Eyes

Plus points so far-

05' plate but 2004 636 model (last 1 before underseat exhaust)
In Kwak dealer for £4500
1 previous owner has done 1.5k miles
Still in warrenty
Looks and is essentially like brand new
P/X on Ducati is more than I could expect privately at present.
From a dealer my past 2 bikes have been from, and whom I trust and get on with.
Bike I have aspired to owning since starting biking
Will be a bike I should be happy with for few years to come

Bad points so far-

Insurance want another £200 for rest of 9months of premium
Insurance request cat1 alarm.
Can only afford tpft
Will need to put some on finance.
More expensive to run than the Ducati, tyres, fuel etc.

Can anyone help with any advice with this model in particular?

I only paid a little more for a 500 mile 05 ZX6R C1.

The B1 seems a little pricey. It all depends if you think it's worth it. Have you asked for a test ride to see if you get on with it?

Edit : Also included in that price was an aftermarket can and the original, official kawasaki mini indicators, plus a cat 1 alarm.

TBH I though it looked like a great deal. Especially considering the good part exchange on my old bike, which has done twice the book millage for that year :-/ Most of the similar CBR F models that they had similar were about £1k more, and IMO, not so nice.

The bike was indeed immaculate. I'm thinking I would probably keep it for 3-4 years and put about 30k on it.

Was it from a dealer Joe?

I'm popping back on Wednesday to take another look and hopefully to arrange a test ride for next week.

I'm currently juggling my finances as you do, trying to get everything to fit !!

A quick scan on Auto-trader brings nothing up better, infact £4500 privately doesn't seem to get anything better than an average 04 plate locally (100miles).

Does sound a bit pricey. My friend bought an 04 zx6r in green with powder coated white wheels, akra exhaust etc and he got it for £4k dead. It hadn't even been run in properly. 800miles. Thumbs Up

For an 05 plate I suppose the price isn't too bad.
You could get an 03/53 plate for a grand less, probalbly with an alarm etc included in the price.
As said already though, if your happy with the deal go for it, they are fantastic bikes.

My main issue is that they have offered me a great trade in on my Ducati, hence this is ofset by the few hundred pounds I could save buying privately.

My Ducati has done twice the book milage, has't got Ducati service history (has been serviced by said dealer), has been crashed, and yet they have still offered the same amount as the private sales around here, for bikes in A1 condition.

To be honest this is a major reason I'm using a dealer, because they have always been fair.

I 'could' save £300-400 on the sale, but I'd have the hassle of selling my bike, at about £400 less than the amount I would get trading it in! PLus 2nd hand bike sales are crap this time of year and could take months.

Anyways, I'm popping back in tomorow for another look, and I'm taking the missus along Smile

Test ride this morning was awesome. Fabulous blue skies and sunshine.

Bike was breathtaking. Power hike was similar to Ducati from 125cc, yet was just as well mannered at slow speeds. The spread of power is so different to the ducati, it all seemed to come at once after about 10K! Despite reports saying it is the most focused of the Zx6's, if felt more relaxed than the ducati!

And.....I'm collecting it Tuesday after the alarm has been fitted. Can't chuffing wait Thumbs Up
