Hope some has the answer!

The radiator on a friends car has sprung a small leak and I vaguely remember that you can get some stuff to "bung" the hole as a temporary measure.

Can anyone remember what it is called?

Cheers in advanced

This will learn me for posting before googling!

For anyone else with the same problem, it is called Radweld!

If only I could rate my own post as helpful Very Happy

From the old days! Developed before the days when cars had expansion tanks.

Been known to block the expansion tank itself. Highly recommended to remove a rad hose and pour it straight into the rad, rather than add it to the expansion tank. Smile

if no radweld available, crack two eggs drop in and boil, that one got me out the crap many a time when shops use to shut on sundays and half day wednesday, but not in the expansion tank, if it goes in there you may aswell do some toast to go with it Very Happy

Just be sure that the eggs have sufficient mental capacity to actually find the hole... Rolling Eyes

The best acting coolant sealer is Barrs, it comes in 2 forms, either as a liquid or as a solid bar that you crumble into the radiator.
Works well and conditions the rest of the system at the same time. Works best if the cooling system has been thoroughly flushed out first.

The best temporary fix in my opinion needs a screwdriver, a pair of pliers and some araldite type stuff.

Use the screwdiver to knock out the wee fins between the radiator channels. Then use the pliers to crush the offending channel flat for 2-3 cm each side of the hole. Then cake the bugger in araldite.

Much better than filling your engine with half-set radweld. Or eggs.

finpos.

What car is it?

Radweld has been known to cause problems with some cars by buggering up the water pumps. That one was on the Rover 800 series.

Be wary of using it.

It is just a get me by till I have time to fit a new rad for her, which should be interesting, talk about cramming the engine into the engine bay!
