Dumb chain tensioning question.... we gota learn somewhere..

Hi,

I was tentioning my chain up today, this is how I do it

Loosen all the nuts off.. and the bolts which move the rear wheel back ( know what I mean? )

Well I lost count of how many times I turned the bolts on one side of the wheel ( the bolt which move the wheel back ) and now im sure my wheel is not straight.. even lough I cant see it, as I can hear funny noises, the other strange thing is it only seems to happen either at low gears when im thrashing it, or exiting courners....

So my question is, How do I make sure the rear wheel is staight and not slightly bent?

There should be marks on the swingarm, make sure that the groove on the adjuster is at the same position on each side.

What's the bike, most have a marking system to guide you to get the wheel nearly straight.

its a peugeot xr6, and it dosnt seem to have any marks wat so ever

If you can't see any marks, use the adjusters to push the wheel to it's maximum position forward - the chain should be very loose and the axle jammed up against the front of its travel in on each side of the swingarm. Then you can start counting the turns on the adjusters as you re-tension the chain.

Or just use a long straight edge against the front and back of the rear tyre - make sure it all even both sides with reference to the front wheel. Trickier than it sounds due to center stand etc getting in the way.

Whats a Peugeot XR6? thought they only made scooters unless that's just for the UK.

Nice looker for a 50cc job but I suspect it's not speced as a moped for the UK, I've only ever seen 1 50cc race rep in the UK and that didn't look half as good as the Peugeot.

Saw a 16 year old out on his CBT on one of thise. technically it's a scooter. Mind you, you have to rev the nuts off those things to get them to move.
