How do you fit conical air filters? Do they replaced the airbox or something? I have received a conical air filter for the NSR which is not at all what I imagined. Do I have to remove the airbox to fit it? ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

That's the one exactly! So it was a waste of money then. Sometimes ebay sucks. I was expecting a foam filter. The ad wasn't very specific as it showed a general picture, under the heading 'RS Mito NSR filter.'

Don't get me wrong, they do have their place but really only on tuned-off -their-nuts bikes. It is a total ball-ache to even get a 4-stroke running well on them and they can be badly affected by humidity/air density even then.
Using one can give your 2-stroke a power increase, but at the cost of smooth running and easy starting lower down the rev range.
If they were all that good, GP bikes wouldn't have airboxes. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Stink speaketh the truth!
Forget these daft cone type air filters, they do nothing other than screw up your bottom end and mid-range power.
Want you want idealy is a larger sealed airbox.

Hi
They have their place, and do work better than some of the dire airbox designs used in the past. Never had a problem getting one to work fine on my old MBX125 many years ago and definatly added some power on that (but then the airbox was tiny and the intake pretty small).
There are problems when they get wet, which may or may not be a problem on your bike depending on the bodywork.
Far more difficult to get set up on a 4 stroke.
By the way, on some bikes you will have problems because the intake to the carb from the airbox is a tuned length. On some bikes extension tubes were sold to go between the carb and the air filter for this reason.
All the best

I stock these and they are made for four strokes mainly but some 2 strokes will take them but mainly very old ones that eat a lot of air, on a four stroke they dont tend to lose any low range power but gain high rev power.....again depends on bike
"oh and btw £12odd is steep, 8.99 i sell them for......." ____________________ My eBay Items |

Didn't you just say £12 was a bit steep? Now you say thats what you sell them for?
Also, can you name a 2 stroke that 'eats alot of air'?

well if you look at his link the air filters are £12.50 plus p+p which is £2.50 which totals at £15
we sell them for just over £12 including p+p
I have no idea about the 2 stroke bikes its just what suppliers said, they are normally sold as universal filters. ____________________ My eBay Items |

how long you will discuss gays about these cone filter , they are not suitable for the nsr because your mixture will be impossible to adjust and when it's raining the result is horrible ! ____________________ the worst day fishing is better than the best day working |

Hmmm Ill let you have that one barry lmao
kickstart is right they dont really work well on 2-stroke bikes the only way to get them to work well would be to restrict the filter somehow and increase the jet size slightly.....This is extremely tricky to do but it does let you use a larger jet wich = more power.........
Dont get me wrong though you cant just keep up-jetting until the filter runs without restriction because you will have over done it by a long shot and you will simply flood everytime you touch your throttle if your lucky enough to get the bike to start
The filters i stock have a huge flow of almost 400cm3 that is way too much for any 2 stroke 125
However I fitted two 60mm ones to my cbr125 using a massive 50mm "T"peice and a 100mm length of 50mm silicon tubing! I had to drill the jet out to about 1.4-1.6mm cant remember exact but that is fecking huge comapared to original and guess what? Didnt work! bike idles at 4000rpm wont go any lower because main jet is so huge to cope with filters and you have to tickle it past 6000rpm or it floods but once you into 8000rpm+ it goes a dream, but the drivability is shot it is no fun and a bitch to start. Guess thats why its called an experiment. Waiting for a filter and jet kit from suppliers in France to "test" or "keep" lol, will ask bout nsr ones if you like, ill let you know how mine goes when i get it. ____________________ My eBay Items |

Hi
Not had problems on a 2 stroke using them, and loads of people have used them on RS125s and the like. You will need to upjet, but not massively. From memory with the MBX I went from about a 115 main jet up to a 150 then worked my way down to a 128.
Multi cylinder 4 strokes with CV carbs are the ones that will be a pig to set up with them, mainly because CV carbs are a pig to set up without a dyno and exhaust gas analyser.
All the best
