PostPosted: 12:00 - 27 Jan 2006    Post subject: R6 Insurance Reply with quote

Hi, I am 24 years old from Birmingham

These are my quotes from bennetts

SV650SK4 - £170
GSXR600 K1 - £768
CBR600 RR - £890
Yamaha R6 1999 - £261
Yamaha R6 2003 - £212

Looks like my next bike will be an R6 - Does anyone know what insurance groups these bikes are and why the R6 is cheap on insurance compared to the Gixxer and CBR600RR

Thanks

Ray

Dont know what insurance group they are, but ive been told the R6 is a little more "forgiving" (handling and acceleration wise) than the other two bike's maybe this has something to do with it?
Also have you tried MCE? They can usually beat bennets hands down....

It's down to value, age, cost of parts, etc.

Try H&R too.

Or Honda insurance for the CBR on 0870 078 0101

Bloody hell! I thought the quote of £1200 I got for an R6 was bad.

Might be worth giving them a call just for a laugh, ask if they can 'shave' anything off that quote as it seems a bit uncompetitive.

I can only presume you have an impressive criminal record and a previous history of slamming into the side of Ferarris.

Try a cheap 99 r6, ring around some companies and you may actually find it's suprisingly affordable!

Actually the R6 is rather LESS forgiving than most other sports 600s, it's a track bike with a numberplate and the responsive steering can make them fairly twitchy to ride on a bumpy road. Power delivery is pretty similar to other sports 600s of the same age.

If you've been offered the R6 insurance at not much over £200 and the R6 is what you want, I should bite their hand off if I were you!

The newer R6s are supposed to be a bit more forgiving.

I would say 99-02 they are definitely a fair bit sharper than the CBRs of the time and slightly than the ZX6.
