a bloke at work is possibly going to let me have this bike.

i know next to nothing about motobike maintenance and i'd like to do it up as a hobby/ way of learning about bikes in general.

its been off the road since 2000 (97 model) and has 48000 on the clock.

what do you think? worth it? or a dog with fleas?

haven't really asked him much about it to be honest but i'm itching to get my fingers on it...

Check the bike over for missing parts, Charge the battery, put fresh fuel in, change the oil, try and fire her up Smile

There are plenty of 400cc bikes out there that you could pick up for a few quid. I'm thinking of doing something like that myself. I have a firestorm i'm going to get rid of and plan on spending the money on a cheap 400 and tricking it up for trackdays.

Is it a reason it's been off the road, 48K is a lot of mileage for one of thoe. My engine started to rattle at about 25K. Worked out cheaper to replace the engine than fix it. Smile

If it's free or very very cheap it would be good fun to check out. As said before, a good clean up, service, and see if she starts! Thumbs Up

48k on the clock I would presume is talking kilometres. In miles thats somewhere around 30k - not a lot for this engine. Mine's got 81k km on the clock and isn't rattling. Replacement engines are cheap though, around £100 because no-one needs them Smile

Only thing wrong with it that I can see is the tankpad Sick Wink

Seriously though, if you can get it cheap, go for it, looks sound from the pictures, apart from the dirt, obviously.
