some basic R6 questions

having fallen helplessly in love with a blue R6 my DAS is now booked for next month! Couple of questions:

is there much different between the earlier R6's and the new ones?

is a slightly older bike with lower miles better than a newer one with higher miles or is there not a lot in it?

Got a budget of £3500 and im fortunate that insurance shouldnt be too much of a prob for me so any buying tips are welcome

some people say R6's are the least forgiving of the popular 600's and other say they are the most whats your views?

And how would you sum them up in general?

cheers people, what are they like size wise compared to other 600 sports bikes? seat height etc

I tried a few 600's recently before buying my first big bike. The one thing about the r6 was the pegs are a bit high which can make things a little tricky until you get used to them.

This means when you stop, your feet have further to move to be able to support the bike. This can be a bit tricky to get used to.

For the price I wanted to pay for a 600 there werent any good r6's but you shd get a good one for the money you have. Try out a few as some will have niggly little things wrong with them. Might not be much to get fixed but if you dont know, its best to get one that has nothing wrong with it.

Watch out for it slipping out of gear when in second and revved a bit while riding. I had heard this isnt easily fixable, but recently someone on here said it is, but you need to know what to get done to it. I think its somehting to do with some spring in the gearbox.

Watch out for bikes that have had race cans fitted but havnt had the fueling adjusted so can cut out at low revs because they now run lean. This is a nuisance for low speed manouvering. On a carbed bike it will need rejetting, on a fuel injected bike, you need to change the settings of the ecu or get a power commander i think.

If you are cautious the bike wont kill you, but if you get a bit over confidant before you are used to it, you may have a problem.

As mentioned, as its your first big bike, chances are you will drop it, so get one which is mechancially sound but maybe with cosmetic damage or which is a cat D repaired or something.

Not hard to get fairings off ebay though if you do drop it.

I found the r6 a bit trickier to ride than other 600's but that might be because the one i tried had a few problems. This might make it more satisfying when you ge the hang of it though.

Thundercat has similar engine and gearbox, doesnt handle aswell, but is easier to ride. Its a lot cheaper than the r6.
