rear brake problem

Hey for some reason my rear brake wont engage....I checked the fluid level and I also took the brake off to make sure the caliper would engage but for some reason when I place it on the bike it wont engage correctly. I honestly have no idea how to go about adjusting the brakes so any help would be appreciated...You don't need to break it down barney style but a brief explanation would work. Thanks

I had a problem with my drum brake, and I got responses from the helpful people who post there within a few hours. Smile

First. What bike?

Second. Is there any pressure at the lever (ie. is there resistance when you press down on the brake lever)?

sorry, its a 99 Gxr 600. Theres slight pressure and it only kicks in in about the last 1/2 inch of the brake....

Do the usual, bleed the brakes, strip and clean the calipers, look for wear on the pads.

Do you have braided hoses? Maybe your hoses arent up to the job any more, or theres a few air bubbles in there, or your seals are effed or your pistons have seized!!
