Hi, This has probably been posted hundreds and millions of times before but anyway....
I am 15 soon to turn 16 and cannot wait to get out on the road. I have owned mini motos, dirt bikes and other small cc bikes. I am saving up to get a 50cc when i am 16 but have not got much idea what to go for. I have a good understanding of motorcycles and am not a *ped boy* as most people think when they see people that are on L plates my age. I had my heart set on a nice Rs50 but have heard these are unreliable. My budget would be around 1500 quid. Any ideas
Cheers Thumbs Up

Yamaha TZR50, Motorhispania RX50, RS50 if you want a 'sports bike' style. I'd save the money and go for a scooter, you can get them to go just as fast, they're much cheaper and you look cooler Confused 2/3 ain't bad.

I'd be inclined to say buy a cheap scooter or a crosser-style 50, razz round on that for a year and enjoy yourself, then at 17 buy a 125 and do your test, or buy a 400/600 and restrict it. Sports-style 50s look nice, but they really are pointless unless you want to change up a gear every 2mph and sound like a wasp in a tin can Wink

A scoot's a scoot, really. They all do the same job in the same way, almost all exactly the same top-end, all handle the same(ish)... all that determine's which scooter to buy, really, is looks, to be honest.

If you don't want to be a ped boi then I'd say buying a scooter is a bad start. Razz

Get yourself a cheap, unfaired, geared 50cc. Something like a DT50, TS50 or that type of thing. Basically something thats not expensive, isn't going to cost lots to fix up when you drop it, and gears are good as you'll be used to them more when riding bigger bikes.

Assuming you vaguelly look after it then you should be able to sell it on for not much of a loss (if any). Sell it when you're 17 and get yourself a 125. Smile

Get a cheap sports bike and sell it every few months for a couple of £££ more and buy another one untill you are 17 then do the same again and i gaurentee you will make money to buy a big bike.

Try and pixk up a cheap 50cc, Piaggio NRG's dont hold there value too well, so they might be available cheap, plenty of things to do to them aswell, can always sell it in a years time for a 125 geared bike, do your test and either keep the 125 for 2 years then upgrade, or get a big bike restricted.

seems obvious get a dirtbike stylee 50,

I had an RX50 aprilia, was ace, almost as fast as my brothers RS50 but I could drop it and get back up and go again not stop and cry at my formerly pretty and now busted up fairings.

Plus havind a dirt bike style bike means moving on and off pavements for parking is much easier.

However one down side, the Chav cult do love dirtbikes and your going to keep it nailed to the floor with rabbid dogs guarding it...or atleast you would if you lived in Coventry Rolling Eyes

Our RX50 really was an ACE dirt bike, would really take punishment.
hold their value well too, which is kinda important as your going to want to fund a 125 as soon as you get near 17.

don't buy an rs. (or any race rep 50 for that matter)

get a crosser/super moto style geared bike, or a scooter.

I agree, the RX50 we had which wasn't just a 50 2stroke it was also an aprilia, did 8000km and a further 3000km when we went to 'view the corpse' when the police reocvered with it, still kicked over and ran with no 2stroke oil in the tank...not that it mattered as it was going ot be crushed Crying or Very sad

Yes race rep 50s are a bad Idea, brother fell off his 5 days after getting it new Rolling Eyes If he'd have had a cheap scoot or a dirtbike style 50 there wouldnt have been the damage the RS sustained.
