It's only pres-season testing; even in qualifying Rossi seems to be slow to start until he finds his groove (like he does come race day as well).

Regardless I'm certain the performance of the Ducatis, Pedrosa and Melandri will be cause for concern. This is going to be one hell of a season. Thumbs Up

Is Stoner moving up from the 250s this year? Think I heard that somewhere.

Kymco, just wait until the season starts. We'll see sete in the gravel plenty then. Very Happy

Stoner's going to be riding an LCR Honda RC211V. He was going to be on a Honda Pons bike but since that's not happening this year he's continuing with his old team only in the GP class.

Some other cool news from the last few days is that McWilliams will be riding for WCM next season and on a... Bimota. Not much known about that yet but it should be interesting, I think they're testing in Qatar early next month. Here's the entry list, the only other semi-interesting bit is that a yank called Jason Perez is riding for WCM too, although I haven't got a clue if he's at all quick. Oh and the 'TBA' rider is almost certainly Checa, it's just not officially announced yet.

that track is just right for the ducati as it has 2 massive straights. There were very good there last year.

I bet they used some qualifiers as well. Rossi wouldn`t have.

Rossi has never topped the pre-season tests all 3 days. does he need to? he's a legend and going to win again. its blatant ducati used stickys. gibernau needs to think he can actually beat rossi, and so using qualifiers helps his cause. in reality, he will never ever beat vale over a season.

Ducati openly admitted they used qualifiers. To quote my semi-finished MotoGP website:

Quote:
On qualifying tyres, Gibernau's best time was a 2'01.03 and Capirossi's was a 2’01.08. With race tyres their times were 2'01.83 and 2'01.64. All of those times are good enough to be unofficial lap records, with the current record achieved by Capirossi when qualifying for last season's Sepang race standing at 2'01.731.

Which does put them slightly slower than Rossi. Sepang was Pedrosa's first try on qualifying tyres, I'm not sure whether or not Melandri used 'em. Yamaha haven't made any comments on whether or not they used qualifiers.

Politics aside I do think Gibernau's feeling quite good about riding the Ducati this year, and if he can get his head sorted could do very well (although not well enough to beat Rossi).

Much as I support Rossi, it would be nice to see him challenged by pedrosa, one of the dukes and melandri. Nevertheless I still want him to win the championship Wink

Ditto; last season was a bit of a procession from time to time. Rossi makes bad start, Rossi follows leader for a while, Rossi makes a move with a couple of laps to go, Rossi buggers off into the sunset showing how he truly is a God on a motorcycle.

I like most motorcycle racing; but BSB and even WSB had some fantastic battles last season. Here's hoping the MotoGP becomes even more entertaining this year.

Maybe what is needed is to make MotoGP more like horse racing - introduce a handicap system.
So Rossi could be made to, for example, ride one handed, or with no lid or leathers(just in his pants), or on a girls bicycle etc etc
Trouble is, the bum faced italian monkey would still find a way to win it on the last lap. He is a biking god, and i'll fight anyone who disagrees!!

Edwards is a truely world class rider, who would be truely on pace with, if not ahead of the honda's if he too were on one. Yet he is only just able to keep pace with them, which shows that the yamaha's arnt the quickest bikes out there. Yet rossi is still quicker than edwards.

People say it would be nice to see how the racing went if rossi was handicapped, well he is, and he's still putting up a damn good fight, winning most races with sheer will power.

Rossi wasnt the boring part of last season, it was everyone else!

about 20% of the overtakes last year were performed by rossi, or at least it looked that way. lets hope this year the rest fight among themselves a bit more Thumbs Up

Edwards final position in the 2004 championship (on a Honda)? Fifth.
Edwards final position in the 2005 championship (on a Yamaha)? Fourth.

Whilst the Yamaha certainly was the lesser bike when Rossi first left Honda, he is an excellent development rider and that bike is most definitely now on a par with the RC211V. If the stats above aren't proof enough then just look at the races last year where Yamahas would demonstrate equal or better grunt that the Hondas at times.

Funny little insight today at the Phillip Island test. It rained. Every rider apart from Gibernau and Kenny Roberts JR went out on track to do some wet practice. And Team KR were sorting a whole new chassis for tomorrow. What's Gibernau's excuse?

Edit: 8316, what did ya think of the site? Razz
