It was one of those traffic programs.

First there was a car that was driving at about 90 on some busy A roads, lots of stupid and dangerous overtakes and general dangerous driving. He got a 12 month ban and didnt say anything about a fine.

Few clips later there is a biker, it's on an empty motorway and the biker goes past the police car at about 135mph. They pull him over and he gets a 12 month ban and a £500 fine or something close.

Is it fair for the biker to get the extra fine just because he was going so fast on an empty motorway but not putting anyone else in danger?

I think they need to take the situation into account more when they're taking someone to court.

In the cops' eyes, someone doing 130mph on an empty motorway, is worse than someone doing 50mph in front of a school, as its clearly more dangerous on an empty motorway Rolling Eyes

When I was stopped after their lazer read '119mph' while I was undertaking another car they hinted that they might not have bothered or so bothered if I hadn't been undertaking.

It will the speed that is taken into account and it isn't the Police who set the fines it is the courts.
