Yep, you can get the drum skimmed by an engineering company. I would have thought it would cost a lot less than £60 to do it, I see no reason why they would need to remove the tyre to do so either. Try some of the classic bike magazines for adverts, it is even possible to re-line brake drums.
That said, I bought a front wheel for an ER5 off ebay for £35 the other day. You could also try calling round some of the breakers in MCN too, I know front wheels are scarce because people keep falling off and hitting kerbs with them but rears should be plentiful. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. You have had the wheel off to measure the drum with a vernier caliper, haven't you? I had a problem with juddery braking with the back, the brake force varying with the rotation of the wheel and the lever not returning properly. Cleaning and lubing everything up which needed it in the rear end sorted it out. ____________________ I must not be a troll...
