I was also gob-smacked that the DSA funded an advert aimed at car drivers to watch out for motorbikes.

The advert is when is has a few clips looking through the car drivers eyes at a junction and saying "When should you see the motorcyclist? Now? or Now? How about now?" while showing the motorcycle at different distances from the junction when you are at looking through the car driver's eyes. One of the distances from the junction is when the rider has crashed and on the floor with the car driver saying "Sorry, I didn't see you mate" and another one when the bike is just about to hit the car and another like 10 metres away and so on. At the end it says "Look, Look, Look and look again" and the car driver sees the bike about 20 metres away and sees the bike.

Somehow I can't but stop think of the timing of the advert...

A few seconds later you realise how effective and important the advert is - I can only hope that they air it more often, and carry on with more publicity like that Thumbs Up

We both saw the advert last night, bout time cagers took note, they drive around blind half of them I am sure.

DRIVERS WARNED "DON'T BE BLIND TO BIKERS"

Following campaigns urging motorcyclists to decrease their speed, car drivers are being urged to do their bit to cut down on the number of bikers being hurt or killed on our roads.

Figures show that 22 motorcyclists were killed or seriously injured in accidents on the Isle of Wight in 2004, and another 83 were injured. Nationally, motorcycle casualties accounted for 17% of all road fatalities, despite only making up 1% of vehicle traffic. On Monday, the Government is launching its “Take longer to look for bikes” campaign, to encourage motorists to look, not once, but twice for bikers. Stephen Ladyman, Road Safety Minister, said: “A quick glance is not long enough to check if a motorcycle is approaching. Drivers need to take an extra second or two to look out for bikers. It can be a real lifesaver. I enjoy biking, but I worry about not being seen. At the same time bikers have a responsibility to look after themselves and make themselves as visible as possible to drivers.”

...sounds like the car I just sold Shocked

I still prefer to be on two wheels anyway - Just glad that there's finally some more pro-biker publicity.

I'm old enough to remember the "Think once Think twice Think bike" campaign, and IMO there seems to be precious little bike awareness since then

Nor me, I haven't watched TV in a month. Sad

I did like that one with the Ducati rider, where he gets warning of every hazard coming up, thought it was an excellent ad.

Laughing I remmber an epsiode of the Young Ones, "think once, think twice, think don't drive on the pavement", and then he batters a cream cake with a cricket bat, and says "imagine this was a pram" or something like that Twisted Evil

Shocked Just saw it, here if anyone wants to see it, courtesy of gammaman:

https://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/motorcycles/motorcycles02.htm

It certainly does shock you. One thing I did like was that in the original footage they had airbrushed out the bike, or used different footage. Because you don't see a thing. My first reaction was 'is it really that hard to see it?!' but without going back and checking, you can't tell that it wasn't there before. Extremely effective advert.
